Pre-Eclampsia - your experiences?

I'm 25 weeks, measuring large and have been told my blood pressure has gone up. Also had some blurry vision, but this comes and goes. I've been quite stressed these past two weeks, but trying to rest, though it's hard.

Can anyone tell me if they have had pre-eclampsia? What should I watch for? Do relaxation techniques help at all? I've read articles but would like to hear actual experiences.

Hi there - this thread is a little old. If you'd like to know more about pre-eclampsia, we've got more information here. MNHQ

My first clue was a weird vision thing, like a crack of lightening in my sight. Although I had had spots beforehand and not realised.
I was pretty poorly with it, by the time I was in hospital I was vomiting alot
On the plus side I was on cloud 9, whilst everyone else was worried I was in a world of pink fluffy clouds. They could have injected me in my eyeball I wouldn't have cared, only asked which one. And DD was absolutely fine, as was I, once she delivered.
I swelled up like a Michelin Man too. My face was like the moon!

I would suggest you see your midwife if your vision is still blurry just to be on safe side. I had PE at 36 weeks with no symptoms I just happened to be going for a routine check up where they told me I had it. 12 hours later I was having a general anaesthetic to deliver baby.

With my subsequent pregnancies I monitored my own bp and would take myself off to midwife if I was concerned to have my water checked.

More likely to happen with first baby or if subsequent baby with a new partner.

Symptoms are high blood pressure, so 140/90 and above consistently with protein in urine. Symptoms are headache not settling with paracetamol, visual disturbances, significant suddenly onset of swelling particularly to face, pain under ribs, nausea or vomiting. Other things could be reduced fetal movement and bleeding.

A change in blood pressure during pregnancy is normal and hospitals should not be using the old guidance of so many numbers above booking BP. Blood pressure is always or should be always lower at booking due to haemodilution.

Baby is more likely to be small due to poor blood flow in placenta.

Increased risk of PET is raised BMI, prev PET, renal problems, pre existing high blood pressure, first baby, new partner.

Risks of small baby, placental abruption, still birth, preterm labour, renal failure, liver failure, stroke, HELLP syndrome.

Pregnancy should be closely monitored, this may be is an inpatient or outpatient.
