My community midwife is lovely.
Mears is an angel and her halo shines over the internet like a radiant beam.
The midwife in hospital who attended me with DD was rushed off her feet, but always made you feel like the only person giving birth that mattered.

Why do you think they are stuck in their ways?

had a fabulous community midwife in the UK. Very patient directed and was soo supportive even after I had to be handed over to consultant for care. Most of my care however was done by consultants due to high risk with no1.

moved to aus - unable to register at birth centre due to previous c-section so very little midwife care. Also did something called shared care GP and hospital - fabulous GP. SO am doing the same again.

On the ward when I had dd2 - fabulous midwife for most of my stay - empathic, listened, helpful despite being a second time mum - 1st baby was icu/scbu care and had special needs - no idea about breastfeeding etc so this midwife was very helpful.

with dd1 - left to be cared for by scbu/nicu nurses although midwives on the ward were brilliant. Had my own room and spent most of my time at scbu so did not see so many of them.

my community midwife in the UK was the least stuck in her ways. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

Each midwife is different and has different views and opinions on lots of things, (drugs, natural childbirth, rasberry leaf, homebirths) .
I've had 3 babies and seen more midwives than i can remember.
I think it's a good thing really because it shows you that there is not just one way that is the right way, but that there are alot of different options in pregnancy and childbirth and you go with what works for you.

So if you find you aren't getting on at all with yours can't you politely ask to see someone else?

i dont actually think they are - but my experience in community midwives hasnt given me much hope - just wondered - thats all midwives in hospital were lovely - altho the older mw do tend to like tradition i think

Some are, some arent. It boils down to personality at the end of the day.
