ok here it goes:

I know I'm just being paranoid, but can't help worrying.....I'm 18 weeks +4 and I can hardly feel any movements at all, this is my second pregnancy and by this time I was expecting to be able to feel quite a lot, but even though I felt a few flutters a few weeks back, I can hardly remember when was the last time that i felt something that was definitely the baby....

Please tell me I'm being extremely paranoid and there's nothing to worry about....I have a scan in 12 days so it's not too far ahead but it feels like years to me at the moment

Webmum, I'm sure everything's fine - I'm a first timer but only felt first movements at 19+5 and still can hardly feel it now (20+5) unless I'm being very still. Maybe your stomach muscles are stronger than you think! Don't panic, you'll soon be sick and tired of it kicking you half to death when it starts!

As much as I'd love to think that my muscles are strong, I doubt very much, as even before my preganancy they were very well hidden under a blanket of cosy fat!!

The first time round I also felt the first movements at 19+, but in matter of few days they got stronger and easier to detect, this time I felt teh first flutters at around 15 and then very little (if anything) after that)...

Webmum, ditto, I'm sure everything's fine. To put your mind at reast can you go to your GP or local midwifery unit so they can check the heartbeat for you? 12 days will seem like an eternity otherwise, I would have thought. I was constantly back and forth with both my pregnancies, and everyone was always really understanding.

Mum2Ela · 03/06/2004 09:38

Webmum ditto am sure everything is fine. The baby may be lying in a position whereby you cannot feel the movements. Its still soooo tiny really (about 6 inches I think?).

Why don't you give the midwife a ring and see what she says?

I had the same, I didn't feel movement with DS1 until about 21 weeks, this time it was probably the same if not later, and this one seems to move less in general than DS, but that maybe because I recall the feeling at 40 weeks when they have run out of space and you can feeling every wiggle. Remember they have so much room at the mo - they must barely touch the sides !!

If you are truly concerned contact yor midwife who can reassure you

Hi there!
Try not to worry, I thought I felt movement at twelve weeks (unlikely I know!) but my tummy was actually moving up and down in the same place! Not much since though, so have concluded it was wind. First baby for me, and I think you are supposed to feel it earlier second time. I would ring and ask, they have your interests at heart and will tell you whats best.

One thing I thought would be really reassuring is those fetal heart monitors you can buy. Not paranoid enough at the moment (they are v expensive) but I think it would be so nice to have to reassure at times like this.

Lots of love, let us know how it all goes, and remember to try not to get too worried, its not good for either of you!!

your post was very reassuring as you seem to have had a similar experience. It's just thing about feeling second babies earlier, and midwife asking if I felt anything at 13 weeks, I was fine until alst week but I suddenly realised I was almost 19 weeks and still felt v. little and I just started to worry (as you do). That and with the nuchal scan reading being a bit high...I just can'tr elax until I get to my anomaly scan....

Samj I did think for a moment about those monitors, but I do think it would be a bit OTT and also, I am sure that I would then convince me that there would eb something wrong with the heartbeat anyway.....

Having said all that I've just felt a little flutter in my stcomach that I'm prettys ure was NOT gas!!!

I think I'll probably give the midwife a call anyway, when I get out from work, or tomorrow morning....

thank you all for your responses!

Webmum - it's ok I think being paranoid comes with the territory! This is a great source for constant potential anxiety for me, but as everyone says, please do get checked if you are worried.

blossomgirl · 03/06/2004 13:23

Hi Webmum, im with bsprout on this one. Don't worry about worrying and do contact the midwives for a listen in between its better than letting it play on your mind. If its any help i know what you mean when you sit there thinking oi where are you? I had lots & lots of very obvious movements then two weeks ago I went for, well forever, with feeling almost nothing for a few days. Just seemed to be the way they were lying inside, its been on & off since then and I'm learning not to worry if all is a bit quite... but if you are finding it difficult just give the MW a ring, its more important that you don't stress.

madgirl · 03/06/2004 15:00

please please don't panic yet. this is my 2nd pregnancy (currently 35 weeks) and i didn't feel anything til 21 weeks!! i kept thinking sth was wrong as everyone kept telling me you feel it v early with the 2nd pregnancy but i didn't.........

webmum · 03/06/2004 15:13

Oh madgirl

thank you so much for that, Im feeling much better now...thanks to the posts and the fact that I did feel a couple of 'bubbles' floating around in my bump (and I'm pretty certain it was the baby!!

I will still worry a bit until I get the scan but that's for another load of reasons, I just wish it was tomorrow!!

Thanks very much, I appreciate evryone's advice!!!!
