Yes it is known to work but can be potent, shouldn't really be used unless under supervision of aromatherapist.

Saying that, it did bugger all for me. It is associated with hyper stimulation of the uterus

Ohh I don't no wether to try it or not heard loads say it's safe but also read a couple off negative comments

I was given it whilst in pushing stage of first labour (on a tissue in a plastic cup to breathe in). V short labour. I put it on my pillow for labour number two, DS2 came 12 days early, a one hour labour. No idea if it made a difference but I was too scared to use it with Third labour (which ended up being 20 minutes anyway).

Heirhelp · 22/06/2016 05:55

Yes it can but it also causes feral distress.

Heirhelp · 22/06/2016 05:56

Fetal not feral.

We were told it can be used from 40 weeks in our hypnobirthing class. No idea if it's OK to try and avoid induction prior to that though. I can't see why not but why don't you ask your midwife?

Babytalkobsession · 22/06/2016 06:06

I've been putting a few drops in my bath (39 weeks) for the last few days and hasn't made any difference to me.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 22/06/2016 06:47

I'm a midwife. We use it at work for women already in labour to get their contractions a bit closer together or stronger. I haven't hard of it being used to actually start labour. I also haven't heard of it causing fetal distress.......if that was a risk factor I think we either wouldn't be allowed to use it or we would have to continuously monitor babies where it's been used and we don't.

Yes it worked for me. I went 12 days overdue with ds 1. After 40 weeks I put a few drops in the bath each day. Definitely brought on contractions but they stopped after 15 mins or so. What did work was doing star jumps and running lunges in the swimming pool. Sadly labout got to 3 cm dilated then stopped. I was induced and then had a c section. Turns out ds head never descended as lying sideways. I know this was not your question but if you need induction you should have an epidural straight away as soon as they start a drip. Contractions were fine with epidural but awful without. Bring on the clary sage. Smalls lovely too. Good luck.

I used a few drops in a bath from 39 weeks and had my DD at 49+4. That's almost certainly coincidence, though, or the vast quantities of raspberry leaf tea I drank! When I researched it I didn't come across anything about foetal distress (will go and do some more reading on this this time round) and figured it was worth a shot!

soundsystem · 22/06/2016 09:13

Sorry, 39+4 that should say!

Nicole1602 · 22/06/2016 11:33

I had a bath with it in and massaged it into the reflexology points for uterus... Went into labour the next day! Glad you got some reassurance from mw.

Nicole1602 · 23/06/2016 19:30

Made my contractions stronger but didn't use it to start labour.
