9week scan, internal or external?

Just that really. In your experience have scans at 9 weeks been internal or external?Got a scan tomorrow afternoon and I really struggle with the full bladder thing so won't bother going through that agony if scans at 9 weeks are more likely to be internal.

In my experience by 9 weeks it will be external. I judt try and drink a glass of water 45 mins or so before, which has always been enough.

Mine was external (private) saw a surprisingly baby shaped bean and a heartbeat. Did have very full bladder!

I had a scan at 7+1 and they managed to find the heartbeat externally. So fingers crossed you won't need an internal.

Mine was external.

Also, I don't know if the guidance has changed or what, but I've had four scans now and wasn't told to have (and didn't need) a full bladder for any of them. Actually, for my 12 week scan, I happened to have a fairly full bladder (long wait at hospital!) and they made me go and have a wee as they couldn't get the measurements they needed. Maybe phone the clinic and find out if you defo need a full bladder?

Mine was internal at 7 weeks but he tried external first, so it must have been theoretically possible to see the baby via external that early. (At least if you turn up with a full bladder and they need to do an internal, you can pee first!)

Don't mind the internal scans unfortunately I've had enough in the past to get used to them.
The letter says to have a full bladder but then so did my scan at 7 weeks and the sonographer didn't even attempt external so suspect it's just standard text.

I have a tilted uterus so it would always be an internal scan for me and sometimes even is at 12 weeks. You're probably right about it being a standard letter and I suppose it is easier to empty a full bladder at the time of the scan than wait for it to fill up.
