heartburn

I suffered with chronic heartburn from almost the day of conception right through to birth and would just like to tell anyone out there that there is a natural remedy for it. Fresh pineapple (unfortunately tinned or pineapple juice doesn't do it) . Expensive and sometimes hard to find in London, but worth it. I did resort to Gaviscon a lot of the time, but whenever I could find pineapples, I guzzled them down.
And you get people saying you'll have a hairy baby with heartburn. Mine is still bald.

Cha, I'm 38 wks pg at the moment and suffering from terrible heartburn, as you say almost from conception to birth. Must have drunk litres of Gaviscon thinking there was no other option. Thanks for the advice about the pineapple will try it, heard it might start labour as well so looks like a double reason to give it a go!

I too have heartburn, not as much as last time, yet, but very burny. Gaviscon is not very good and tastes horrible but I love fresh pineapple I will try them.

I had terrible heartburn with all 3 babies and my consultant was quite happy for me to take zantac (ranitidine) which was the only thing which worked.Towards the end even that did not work too well but I thoroughly recommend it.

I always took Rennies - I had little sheets of 6 tablets all over the house, in coat pockets, bags, both cars, under my pillow etc - the spearmint ones don't taste too bad and they are calcium carbonate so must help with teeth and bones, and if you bite a corner off and chew and swallow it, it works pretty quickly and then you can keep the rest of it in your mouth for ages.

It might not be as natural or work as well as fresh pineapple but it's a lot more portable!

Fruit flavoured Rennies or Tescos own are good and you can take them anywhere. Gaviscon just made me feel sick. My midwife suggested pineapple to get labour on the way!!

i had terrible heartburn from 24 weeks on. swore by rennies - as the heartburn really kicked in when i was lying down, couldn't go to sleep without sucking a rennie... once i ran out - utter panic - and had to send ds out in the middle of the night to get some! bless him.

You can ask for Gaviscon in mint or lemon flavour as well from your doc on prescription. The lemon is foul imho but the mint was good! Doesn't cost any extra if buying over the counter either. I used to get a prescription for a litre at a time!!!

I didnt get on too well with Gaviscon, the one that worked for me was REMEGEL, the little square chews, kept them in various pockets, drawers and handbags.

I had terrible heartburn fm 16 wks with dd - nothing suggested by Doctors worked - had to sleep propped up on pillows with glasses of milk by my bedside. Every so often it would make me vomit and I would get relief for a day. It didn't matter what I ate or didn't eat. On 2nd pregnancy now and only a little heartburn now and then so will definitely try pineapple as suggested. Oh, by the way had a baby with a huge amount of hair.

I found osteopathy was very good at easing the heartburn. With my first I saw the osteopath every couple of months, but so far with this one (10 weeks) the heartburn hasn't been as bad.

How very curious about the hairy baby - not heard that one before - but ds was born with masses of long red hair!
