Possible pre eclamsia

Update, I went for a routine last appt with consultant today and my blood pressure is high, it was high at midwifes appt yesterday although I didn't notice.

So he sent me for a scan, a 30 minute trace and some blood test to test for pre eclamsia.

I am at home now waiting for the hospital to call me to tell me if the tests show that I have PE. If they have I have to go and have an em c/s today.

If not, consultant suggested that I am booked in for c/s at 41 weeks and I can continue to try for the vbac.

Anyone have any experience of this. The trace was normal, as was the scan.

Was there any protein in your urine? I am having bp trouble at the moment, but doc says i am ok as no protein. I have to go to hospital every other day for bp check, urine and trace. I too am hoping for vbac - am 38+2 now.

No, there is no protein and I have some odema in my right ankle but that's possibly because I have broken my other one and am putting undue pressure on it.

The only sign so far really is high blood pressure.

It's a pain isn't it, not knowing.

How many weeks are you?
I said goodbye to my ankles a couple of weeks ago! The consultant doesn't seem worried - they put me on tablets last week and are happy to keep monitoring me. I had a sweep yesterday to try to speed up the process as i was getting narked at going in all the time - but as dh keeps telling me, it could be worse - they could keep me in.
Let me know what the results are - if you get chance. Good luck

I had suspected pre-eclampsia. I developed high blood pressure at around 26 weeks, but at 36 weeks it hit 165/115 and I was admitted to hospital.
They did a load of tests (but no scan) and decided I just had high blood pressure which can be a symptom of p.e., but can occur for other reasons and which does not cause p.e.. In the end they gave me medication (methyldopa) and sent me home. I went into labour naturally at 41+3 but they monitored me continously and the labour was very medicalised which led to a c.s. Not sure if their approach to the labour was because of my b.p. or because someone put (wrongly) in my notes that I was induced. Because of the high b.p., they were unwilling to let me go more than about 10 days overdue and would have induced that day, had I not gone into labour.

After the c.s. my b.p. was very high (190/ something) and the doctors looked a little stressed. It settled down but I ended up re-admitted to hospital after it bounced back up. Apparently some women develop (pre?)eclampsia after giving birth, so they need to monitor your b.p. after the birth. 3 weeks later it had settled.

UCM

I do support for a pre-eclmapsia charity, so if you need a chat or advice give me an email

peaches and cream 04 at bt internet dot com

but you now my address anyway

I had eclmapsia (fitted) with ds1.

UCM · 18/01/2007 14:23

Ta Peach.

Bobinog I am 39+1 and they have said if tests are clear I can go to 41 weeks.

What is a bit surreal is sitting here waiting to find out if I have to go back in. They said if they don't call I am ok. LOL I should have said no, call me whatever happens. I will give it til 4pm and call them.

Is there any reason why they are insisting on a c/s? (Assume the bp must be very high?) Do you have any swelling in your hands?

I had pre-eclampsia with ds (felt absolutely fine, I might add) and ended up being induced 2 days early, but no-one suggested a c/s was necessary. BP was raised at my 39 week appointment with the mw, and rather to my surprise she said "you'll need to come in on Sunday morning to have it measured again" (Sunday?! Surely not!). But twas so, they almost appeared to have opened the entire midwife unit at the hospital merely for moi. Was still high so staggered up to the maternity ward to be monitored and blood taken, spent all day in there which was nice. Then given a sweep and told to go home and try and go into labour (!) before Tuesday, otherwise they would induce.

Best of luck to you!

Test was fine, I can stop panicking now

UCM, is it possible the raise in blood pressure is caused by the ankle break? (Eg you are physically and mentally more stressed)?
