Whooping cough vaccination - second pregnancy

Hi, just wondering if anyone could tell me whether I need to get the whooping cough vaccination again in my second pregnancy?

I had the vaccination when I had my first baby in 2014 so just wondering if I need to get it again to protect this wee one or whether he/she will be immune from the 2014 injection? I've had some mixed advice from the practice nurse (who says I don't need it) and the midwife (who said I did need it).

Tempted to go ahead to be on the safe side but don't want to do anything that might harm baby number 2.

Yes, you do (assuming you want to protect your baby this way).

The immunisation is not given in pregnancy to ensure you are immune, but so that in the last weeks you produce antibodies (in response to the vaccine) which are transferred across the placenta and give your baby some measure of protection until they are old enough to receive the jab themselves.

Thanks! I thought that might be the case but didn't want to just go ahead and do it then find out later it wasn't the right thing. Will get booked in ASAP.

You do need to et it with each pregnancy. I'm in Scotland and the guidance has just changed (in the last month) to now getting it between 16-20 weeks...I had to get mine ASAP as in just about 20 weeks!

I'm 25 weeks! It was only mentioned to me at my appointment yesterday. Never said anything at my 16 wk appointment. Will make an appointment sooner rather than later then. Thanks

I have just had my jab (england) at 31 weeks. Second pregnancy.
The leaflet I got said between 28-32 weeks is ideal but you can have it up until 36 weeks.

Yeah you need it again. I had one in 2014, and I've just had another as due in July! Me said between 28-36 weeks to me, I had it at 31 weeks this time. I think I was 29 weeks last time xx

Yep need it every pregnancy. It used to be 28-32 weeks but nhs in England has recently changed guidelines to say from 20 weeks. Chatting to my midwife yesterday she said the hope is they do it at 20 week scan but that will take some time to implement.
Getting mine done next week when I'll be 29 weeks

I think you should make a complaint (that's too harsh a word but I haven't woken up properly yet so my brain doesn't work) to your gp practice as it's shocking that the nurse gave you incorrect advice. How many people have listened to her and not had it done when they should have?!
