Sorry if everyone who suffers already knows this but i felt i must Share a tip i found on another website & have implemented.

If it is the worst for you while you're in bed you just have to get a memory foam mattress. They are expensive but you can get the topper for around £70 quid. I was crippled with crutches before xmas. Can walk virtually normally now and although it still hurts its so much less so. Hope this gives hope to others.

Exactly!! I have one,its an entire matress though, bought before I was pg for my bad back, (it didn't work for that though, lol) It's not just the spd it helps with. I was waking up in the spareroom,(where I was sleeping during 2nd trimester, as I found it better to sleep wihout dp in bed),with really bad shoulder and hip pain which I put down to my increased weight, so kicked dp out our room and and now happily installed on the memory foam mattress. Sheer bliss, they are indeed very pricey but as you say the mattress toppers are a less expensive alternative.

I've also been given some unusual advice which seems to have helped. My midwife told me I must drink loads of water to stay hydrated, no caffeine at all, make sure I have loads of omega 3,6&9 oils in my diet from oily fish or seeds and to take 2 tablespoons of olive oil a day (which I use up in salad dressing). Must say although I have never heard of dietary advice before it has helped. SPD not gone but not worse over last 10 weeks and bearable.

have just seen an ad for a matress topper adn this post has made my mind up to buy one! you reading my mind anna? also recognise the hip and shoulder pain described by littlestboho

currently 27 weeks pg and suffering some spd discomfort, suffered a lot during end of last pg and considered getting the full on matress on a 60 day trial they were advertinsing at the time and just sending it back after having baby!

I get that feeling that my pevis is being crushed under its own weight when I am trying to get to sleep, , usually sleep sitting up... didnt sleep more than 3 hours a night for weeks before dd was born... Couldnt go though that again... will try anything!!! will order that matress topper now! Thanks for the advice!

I can only say that i feel i have a whole new lease of life since buying one. It took three days to get used to though so give it chance to do it's magic. I too was suffereing shoulder and severe hip pain and i believe the mattress has allieviated these sysmptoms the most and that has made the classic pubic area pain much more bearable. If i could afford it i would get the full size mattress too.Mine is full size but thinner. The thing i would stress is i still have SPD now but bearable. It was so severe i could not do ANYTHING without being in terrible pain. So now the fact i can walk around. bend down and get better sleep means everything to me. Sorry to bang on but it has been like a miracle cure and I'm so grateful. If i've helped you out cattymum, i'm chuffed.

Just wanted to add to the list for spd pain relief ...acupuncture.

I have been having chriopractic treatment for it for the last 12 weeks she suggested acupuncture, I had my first session 2 weeks ago and I can't beleive the difference it has made to my life!

I am almost pain free now, and I can honestly say I didn't beleive it would do anything. But it has!

went for my second appointment today and will have one every three weeks or so if I need it.

I feel like I have a spring in my step now after not being able to climb the stairs at certain points.

I'm so thrilled as I thought it would just get worse and worse till d-day like last time.

I am really glad I read this thread. Was in a lot of pain for a long time with SPD with my first pregnancy (from 23 weeks pregnant until 1 year after birth). My pelvis was damaged in labour and I was warned another pregnancy would be worse.

Am 19 weeks pregnant at the moment. Can't even get a referral to see a physio (again). Having to walk for 1 hour a day from car park to work as my employer won't give me one of their 100 car parking spaces for a few months. Am going to get the topper as this seems really hopeful. Thanks
for the tip anna

Mattress is still keeping spd to a manageble level although i am feeling less mobile & a little more pain in the morning.I am 35 wks pg now though so i expect it will get worse now i'm bigger. I am stil not feeling anywhere near the agony i was suffering. I saw a thick mattress topper for a double bed in my local co-op for £99.00. It's worth every single penny when you're in agony.
