Help - Liverpool Women's don't do antenatal classes? I'm confused!

Anyone else given birth / planning to give birth at Liverpool Women's?

I thought they did antenatal classes, nothing fancy but you know the NHS ones. And I thought that if you had had your booking in appointment there you would just get an invite automatically.

However, I have just called them and they say that they do have limited antenatal classes, but they are booked up now! I wasn't told anything about needing to book them, in fact unless I'm going mad I'm convinced I was told I'd get an invite.

And apparently you can do a tour of the maternity wards by ringing the community mw of a weekend (which I will do obvy) but there is another organisation that runs something called Parentcraft classes, but I have called the number they gave me and there is no answer and the answerphone message is just a standard "please leave a message" one; doesn't even say who they are or what they do.

Help!

Expecting is a good book. Written by a very experienced antenatal teacher. It covers the whole of pregnancy. You could try borrowing a copy from the library and renewing it a couple of times!

I'd describe it as 'antenatal classes in a book' as it has so much info you'd get in classes. The thing you don't get - and which lots of people say they go to classes for - is meeting other people. But if you have local NCT/baby groups you can start with that after the birth instead.

Thanks SueW will check it out!

Right, update... spoke to the mw on the phone earlier today, she spoke to lwh and whiston and she can get me on classes at...

Whiston.

Oh well! Still, I'm not gonna give birth there I'm just going for the classes!! And at the end of the day, it is closer to me...

Thanks everyone for all the advice.

Am another who gave birht in womens and had one parent craft class before they were cancelled. To be honest I knew more from using websites and also reading magazines etc. The one thing would recommend is going to the breathing class think it is on every thursday but phone to check. Helped me with all three of my labours.

when are you supposed to go to antenatal classes? im 19 weeks and i hadnt thought of it, should i be booking something, i sort of assumed they were a late pregnancy thing?

3rdTriMossTer · 19/01/2007 10:17

Daydreambeliever they are for towards the end of your pregnancy, but don't make the mistake I did! I assumed because I had my booking in appointment at the hospital I would automatically be invited to their antenatal classes and imagine my when I phoned to find out that it didn't happen like that!

You could ask your mw at the next appointment what the score is.
