I need to buy a decent moses basket and swinging stand. I've seen a nice basket on sale on the Kiddicare website but stand doesn't rock and a good sale on babies 'r' us but don't like baskets...any recommendations pls?

That'd be great, thanks.

You don't need a swinging or rocking stand.

ChaCha · 15/01/2007 14:12

Why? Thanks

marymillington · 15/01/2007 14:18

hi

just to add to the controversy.....unless you are planning another 3 children after this one, try to borrow a moses basket if you can. they literally fit in them for minutes.

(are you all set chacha, its not long now is it?)

Hi MM - Thank you for asking, probably sooner than later as I have changed my mind from VBAC to elective section and see consultant for appt next week. What about you?

I had a moses basket for DS that he used until around 5-6 months but i've since thrown it away as he got loads of use out of it and we lugged it around everywhere with us (visits/trips away etc.) so we are in need of another. I don't like the stand let alone the swinging one but DH who percevered with DS's colic in the early weeks believes that the swinging motion may help as this is how he got him to sleep in the wee hours (by rocking him gently from side to side) hence the decision to buy a new one.

Probably not needed but its what he wants and is on mum's list of buys.

chacha..apologies if i have asked..but what helped you decide in the end to go for elective? ta x

I have the cheapest one from John lewis. £30 for basket and £20 for stand. They had run out of them on the website but may have them now but you can get them instore. It's good quality and not too frilly

I was bought a lovely moses basket for DD2 from toys r us. It is proper wicker so very sturdy and withstands ds and dd leaning on the sides while DD2 is asleep. I dont have a stand as was worried about DD1 knocking/pulling it over.

SHHHH · 15/01/2007 20:47

we just used the cot bit that came with the pram iykwim. DD slept in this until around 6 months old.

Plan to do the same with ds2b due in 2 weeks time.

eidsvold · 15/01/2007 22:03

what about something like this instead...

here

SHHHH · 15/01/2007 22:10

SHHHH · 15/01/2007 22:12

Join the freecycle network. google it and then choose one in your area. I put an ad for baby stuff and was given lots of things, including basket, bath, clothes, etc by kind people. Find out about NCT nearly new sales. Bought stuff there cheaply too. I got lots of stuff second-hand, it doesn't have to be expensive.

DetentionGrrrl · 16/02/2007 12:38

agree with marymillington- my cousin gave me one (i wasn't going to bother getting one) and DS was in it for a couple of months tops.

MrsBadger · 16/02/2007 12:40

Rocking stand for moses basket here - not seen a swinging one anywhere at all. Agree nicest basket is the cheapest JL one - the rest are so frilly.

Do get things second-hand if poss though, esp if it's likely to be the last child.

MrsBadger · 16/02/2007 12:40

damn, wrong link - rocking stand here

BibiThree · 16/02/2007 12:45

DD was in hers for 12 weeks and I'm SO glad we had ours as a gift. I wasn't going to buy one at all, but was v glad of it after an emergency c-section and having "bed" in the livingroom rather than being up and down the stairs all the time.

Wouldn't recommend spending too much though, just get a second hand/borrowed one.

Nicki10 · 16/02/2007 17:52

Mamas and Papas have some lovely ones and they have a very robust rocking stand which is £30.

I have been given a moses basket and stand but the stand part looks very fragile so I am going to buy the mamas and papas rocking stand.

blissieblue · 16/02/2007 20:23

I've just bought the cheap JL one with a Mamas and Papas rocking stand on Ebay for £16. It's in perfect nick but am buying a new mattress. Only thing is when it arrived i realised that it's quite small (mattress is 67cm long) and as DS was a long baby I'm worried that new baby will be too and will be in it for literally a week or something! Oh well - therein lies the benefit of buying second hand and cheap.....
