For the past month ive been having pelvic pain, when turning over in bed putting trousers on ect anything that involves separating my legs hurts. Any exercises or something to help with pain? I did mention it to my MW but was sort of shrugged away as a pregnancy symptom.

Phone your GP surgery and ask if you can self refer for physio.

Keep your legs together as much as possible - put a plastic bag on your car seat, and swivel in and out as if you are wearing a tight mini skirt.

Sit down on your bed to put pants and trousers on. Sleep with a pillow between your legs to support your hips.

Hope that helps a little!

Also ask for hydrotherapy. That helped me a lot.

Swimming (more bobbing about in water than swimming) was the only relief I got for those last few weeks.
Pushing a shopping trolley or pushchair made me feel about a hundred times worse.

Ask for a women's health physio referral

I went to a group physio session that covered how to get in and out of bed and roll over. The trick is to keep your legs together and consciously tighten the three sets of muscles that support your pelvis. These are your pelvic floor muscles, the one that sort of pulls your tummy in and the ones that you use the hold your thighs together. This has helped me massively.

It sounds like SPD. If you can afford to, see an osteopath or chiropractor that knows how to treat SPD/PGP asap. You should get some relief with some gentle manipulation to realign things and some exercises.

Pillow between your knees at night. Try to avoid things like heavy lifting, pushing a trolley or hoovering (I know...). Get a support belt - Amazon or £20 from JoJoMamanBebe. Good luck, it's grim - I'm on my second round, but it did disappear instantly, when first DC was born!

There are some pretty good videos on YouTube of simple exercises you can do to help. Also using a birthing ball I find helpful. Sleeping with a pillow between my knees and another between my ankles to keep my whole legs parallel is helpful (doesn't make the pain go away but it's about 100 times worse if I sleep pillow-less). went to see a chiropractor and it helped for about 3 days then I was as bad as ever. Maybe if you stick with it then it would help longer term but I just don't have the cash for that every week.

Echo the women's health physio referral- I was same and left it too long, am now on crutches and signed off work. Not saying will be same for you, but get checked out!

CityDweller · 19/05/2016 21:49

Get thee to a women's health physio. If you can afford it, go privately because it'll take until the baby is out and walking to get an NHS referral I also found acupuncture incredibly helpful with SPD pain - again I went to someone who specialised in women's health.

If you're in London I can recommend specific people if you send me a pm

Exactly what minty said. I had PGP (the newer name for spd) and saw a Physio at our general hospital. She gave me all of the same tips, and also gave me a ginormous tubigrip thing to wear round my bump/hips/thighs

It eased a lot once baby's head engaged so maybe exercises to encourage that might help?

icedcherrytea · 19/05/2016 23:58

I'm 33 +4 with twins and am housebound and on crutches with spd.

I have had 2 different support belts. Physio. Massage. Hydrotherapy. Hot and cold treatments. Strong painkillers.

Nothing has helped me and in fact it's getting worse the larger I become. Both heads are down so I am in lots of pain.

I'm so sorry for my woe is me post but just wanted to post and share to say you aren't alone. X

27+6 here with PGP that I've had since 8 weeks Shock. I've been at Physio since 18 weeks and though she's lovely and giving me lots of tips. The pain is pretty horrific. I've been recommended acupuncture so I'm going to try that.

I second the pillow tips and make sure you get out of bed correctly- look it up online. Also make sure you get dressed sat down as one legged standing is a killer for the pain for me. Pelvic floor exercises are your friend!
Tubi grip also a godsend. I've not got on with the pelvic stability support belt as it digs in when sat down.

Thanks everyone!! Didn't even consider speaking to GP (just thought its something everybody gets and to put up) will call them today and have a look online for pgp!! 😊
