nausea in the office

is anyone else having problems coping with the office and being sick? I have terrible nausea all day and throughout the night. My worst time of day is around midday which makes work hard. I am trying to work from home as much as possible but I am not enjoying letting my staff down. But i am finding it all a bit much to cope with if i'm honest. I want to be able to cope, but the thought of being stuck in a meeting when a big fat wave of sickness hits me is enough to induce mind-numbing anxiety.

lots of sympathy from me. i was so ill when pg.

i would definitely tell your boss. just ask him/her to keep it quiet until you are ready for it to be general knowledge. If you can start to take it a bit easier then you may start to feel a bit better. Being able to come in late, work at home etc. will make a massive difference.

My top tip is to never ever ever get hungry. You have to eat something every 2 hours (including during the night when you wake) - it's interesting you start to feel bad towards midday, maybe when your blood sugar is getting low? Pasta is great, rich tea biscuits anything... just keep your blood sugar levels up.

Take care all of you! It does get better

Luckily my sickness wasn't too bad, but the tiredness!!! I nearly dropped off at my desk several times and had to take a day off (the only one luckily) because I literally couldn't get out of bed. As someone said above, it's typical that it's the first 3 months that you really suffer, when people generally don't know. I told my (fantastic) boss at 10 weeks and he wasn't at all surprised!

Totally agree with twickersmum - nibble often and you should keep it at bay. In the early days I'd be really hungry by lunchtime but my stomach would turn just looking at the food in the sandwich shop. Dry biscuits like ginger nuts and rich tea worked for me. My friend could only manage 'beige' foods, which still makes me laugh - breadsticks and hummus for three months.

It's awful, isn't it? I felt really, really sick for the first twelve weeks but only actually vomited on one occasion - when I bolted a curry that I had been desperately craving. The only things I really felt like eating were hula hoops and egg mayonnaise sandwiches! I had only just started sharing an office with a new colleague and she was really relieved when I told her I was pregnant as she just thought I was always very burpy and had extremely peculiar eating habits! I would advise having a quiet word with your immediate boss about working from home and asking him/her to keep it quiet.

Egg mayonniase sandwiches - that is gross at the best of times. I am learning that i just have to force myself to eat. Currently it's wine gums and rich tea biscuits, but i know that within 2 days i won't be able to stand the sight of them. Being a natural rebel i have turned against ginger even though i usually love it - just don't want anything strong tasting. It has certainly got more copable with (can't even do proper grammar these days) over past two days - so am feeling not quite so useless. and occasionally when i get the food/blood sugar ratio right i even get a bit of relief. The not so crap times make me realise just how bad the bad bits are and that i'm not being a wimp - it really is that horrible! Agree about the evenings - after five is a no-go zone for me - partner wistfully asked this morning when we could go out to dinner again.

So gald to read this thread, its something I am struggling with at the moment too. Horrible isn't it?!

I am not often sick, but agree that sometimes I think that would be easier than the constant nausea. In fact my nausea gets worse as the day goes on. i have been trying to leave work mid afternoon, but was told I can't keep going off sick like that "as you can't plan to need time off to be sick". Ummmmm, I can plan to!!!!

Then I was told to see my GP and be signed off completely, but this seems like overkill as I can cope in the mornings. So am off to see occ health to see what they can advise.

I had a stage of only wanting MeDonalds too, I think it was my bodies way of getting hot food. I can't stand the smell of any other food cooking )-:

My job involves a lot of face to face client contact. I often wish I could hide behind a computer, but maybe I'm mistaken!
