her mum was induced for all 3 of her labours and she wants to know if this can be genetic? so if your mum had to be induced did you have to be aswell?

I think your personal gestation period can be inherited - my mum was 2 weeks late with all three of us, and I was 2 weeks late with both of mine...

So if you are going to agree to induction at 40 + 2, then I suppose induction can be genetic.

I mean 40+14

agree with colditz.....there can be a familial tendency for babies to be born early / later..

the trick is to try to avoid getting hung up on 40 weeks and the EDD being the be all and end all

37 - 42 weeks according to WHO is the normal gestational period .....so 42 weeks is not necessarily overdue..although it can be a fight not to be induced as soon as you get past 41 weeks

the EDD is based on a 28 day cycle and not everyone has one, and some babies simply need to 'cook' longer!

i'm sure there is a mumsnetter ( kittysomething? kittyinwaiting? ) who goes 42 + with her pregnancies .....

I went to 42+2 with my first, and if my waters hadn't broken I'd haave refused an induction. Went to 41+5 with second, and had a really nice controlled (by me) labour - but if I had let them induce at 41+3 like they wanted to, that probably would not have been the case.
