Finally Feeling Pregnant

I'm just over 10 weeks pregnant with my first, and i'm finally feeling pregnant!
I dont have anything like a bump yet, and no morning sickness so far; so up untill now i've felt a bit like a fake. Espeshally as i've not told anyone at work yet.
But a few hours ago, it all seemed to kick in all at once. I had the hugest craving for 'rhubarb and custard' (the pink and yellow sweets). Spur of the moment while DH was at football i got in the car and popped to the local supermarket, found the sweet isle, and they didnt have any.
Second pregnancy effect; hormones. I was so upset they didnt have any, i cried in the middle of the shop. Had to try and explain to the assistant that i wasnt metal, but she did find me some sweets.
But as stupid as i felt, i'm really excited now. Has anyone else had any similar expereinces? (reasure me i'm not mad?)

Have no experience like yours as I started being sick at 5 weeks and didn't stop until about 20 but wanted to say congratulations on 'feeling pregnant'. Hope all goes well for you and well done for not having any morning sickness

Maila,

I'm 29 weeks with my first.

I think everyone feels it differently. I worried at first because I read loads of books that give a week-by-week guide to being pg. They're all so prescriptive, you know "by week twelve your ms will have stopped and by week 14 you will be blooming and by week 20 you will be horny blah blah blah". What a load of horlicks!

Thankfully I discovered mn at about twenty odd weeks and joined an ante-natal club which has been a wonderful help because you can see just how other women are experiencing it, many of them are not first timers so you can get advice from people who have been there before.

As for hormonal incidents, the one piece of advice I'd give is do not under any circumstances watch the episode of Planet Earth with the dying polar bear and the baby penguins. You'll need a tree's worth of tissues if you do!

Love the the excitement at bursting into tears for rhubard n custards!

I felt exactly the same way about my pregnancy (also first time, now 27 weeks). I felt a bit of a fraud before my bump showed but when weird things happened, like suddenly totally hating artichokes and needing to drink Yakult all the time, afterwards I felt that my change in status was being confirmed. Even if it was a bit peculiar to be needing red vegetables and be grossed out by anything green...

Oh to not feel pregnant again...I acutely remember posting on MN saying when does morning sickness start, almost in anticipation at feeling properly pg, then bam - it hit me, and now I can't remember what it was like to not feel pg! Malia, this is my first so don't know for sure, but if at 10wks you still have had no m/s then it sounds like you may have totally escaped it, for which you should be eternally grateful, trust me! I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!
I did nearly cry in waitrose because the didn't have the pasta sauce that I wanted!

My m/s doesn't ever kick in until about 10 weeks- just as the books say it should be finishing. This pg I went right off oranges in the beginning- couldn't face juice, squash or the fruit, as well as tea. Finding anything to drink was a nightmare.

Since the m/s started it hasn't stopped. I'm now 30+ 6 and still throwing up every morning without fail (getting used to it now).

I also had a major tantrum in Tescos last Sunday because they didn't have any Roast Ox crisps much to the embarrassment of my 17 year old DS. In my defence I was tired and it was the last straw!

i went mega healthy when i first got pregnant-my mantra was "if it's not good for the baby i won't eat it". now i would eat a thermo-nuclear big mac if it made the nausea stop. All salad leaves taste mouldy, you risk your life if you come near me with an olive, chocolate leaves a yucky taste in my mouth for hours, but hula hoops are manna from heaven right now. And i can't go into town because it smells like a chinese restaurant.

lizziemun · 14/01/2007 15:04

Maila,

I know what you mean i to have just found out i'm 7 weeks pg and have ms although i would say i have not been sick just feeling sick all day if i can't eat it's worse and if i do eat it's worse so i can't win. I didn't have any ms with my 1st pg.

Also my sense of smell has gone hyper anything and everything smells realy strong so that make me feel worse.

Lwatkins · 14/01/2007 16:08

Oh the days of morning sickness - don't miss em! I had it from about 5 weeks until 12 weeks, am now nearly 21 weeks gone and can look back and sort of chuckle at the thought of it all - i said sort of!!!
I had a phase for a while where i didn't feel pg at all, then i heard my babies heartbeat and ever since its not that i feel pg, its more that i know im pg if that makes any sort of sense! Now she's kicking and moving about lots so its kinda hard to forget she's there, most of the time!

thanks for all your advice, random behaviour and surges of emotions can be quite overwhelming for first time mummy's to be.
as for the morning sickness, i am hoping that it doesnt suddenly rear its ugly head, but i do have the hightened sense of smell that somepeople have been saying about. DH brought home a curry the other night, the smell was too much, and i made him take it outside to eat.
Thanks again for all your lovely advice, i only found this site the other day (reccomendation from friend) and it's so nice how welcoming everybody is

Maila have you joined an ante natal club? It is really helpful, you can "talk" with people who are at the same stage as you and it helps you realise that you're in the same boat as others!
