folks- how often r u feeling yr lo move? mine seems to be very quiet and not a great deal of action. i thought this (26 weeks) was meant to be real peak activity time in there b4 she gets too big to jiggle around too much??
any top tips on getting her to move?
am i being paranoid and just worrying too much??

you are probably just worrying too much - have you been very active/busy today?

my midwife suggested either:
a big glass of orange juice or something sugary and a lie down
a warm bath, and a glass of very cold water simultaneously

apparently usually gets a reaction

weeonion · 13/01/2007 00:22

thaks mary - typical day = most days are pretty busy with walking / rushing around. havent felt anything for a while -- despite prods, cold water and sugary drink. maybe try and lie down to see if that gets her attention?

i used to find just as i was settling down to sleep dss wold decided to fit all the movement in! with ds2 he was quite a lazy soul druing the day and often i wouldnt feel anything til evening. would give him the old prod now and then to remind him. now as a outside baby is on the move all the time

With DS I hardly felt any movement all the way through, and used to get completely paranoid when other mtbs said they could hardly sleep because theirs were moving around so much blah blah. This also happened to a pal of mine. All I can say is try not to worry too much - it doesn't seem to be any indication of what they're like once out - DS hardly stops moving now, and has been a right wriggler since birth.
Much more movement with pg2 - I think because there's more space in there, but still doesn't seem to be as active as some folks' babies. MW told me some women just feel it more than otehrs.

well im nearly 22 weeks and i can feel movement but not all the time i think this ones going to be very laid back!!

on our 20 week scan the baby was in such a position they couldnt check everything out so we had to go back this week we ended up being their for 2 hours as this baby really doesnt want move!!

i have found that when im relaxing is the time i mostly feel them move, and when i have chocolate they really move!

the woman who was scanning me was getting me to do lots of things to try and get them to move she suggested
a hot drink
a very cold drink
and eat something sweet.

redbullandbump · 13/01/2007 08:12

just wanted to add that this is my second pregnancy, ds was completly diffferent and would not stop moving.
also when ds was getting bigger in me the movements were also bigger and uncomftable, as their is less room for them to move he used to put his foot or hand under my ribs and belive me you will feel it then

flumppootle · 13/01/2007 08:45

Hope that you have managed to get some sleep weeonion. My lo doesn't move about alot either. A cup of tea and some chocolate usually gets some response but not that much! Have a chat with your mw, it does depend where the lo is as to how much you feel. Having a listen in with your midwife to the heartbeat and a good chat about it will give you the reassurance that you need.

lulumama · 13/01/2007 08:48

have an icy cold drink and lay on your left side

also, baby might have moved position and be kicking towards your back

if you are having significantly less movement than you would expect over 24 hours, give the midwife a call..going on the monitor for 20 minutes seems to get them moving again

talcam · 13/01/2007 08:52

Really cold water should do the trick but baby could be felling lazy or have moved as lulamama says. try not to overly panic

weeonion · 13/01/2007 09:14

thank you folks.
Probably worrying just a bit too much.
gonna give the unit a call - just for reassurance.

Had this problem last time, ate a family size bag of crisps and lots of movement occured ! Not sure why.

LupinsBigLump · 13/01/2007 20:01

How about cold fizzy drink and a lie down - usually works with mine, and I have heard lying on your left side can make it either want to move more or you can feel it better, cant rmember which

colditz · 13/01/2007 20:10

Cold glass of coke in wrm bath

ShowOfHands · 13/01/2007 20:10

Do you know where your placenta is? I know that mine is anterior (at the front) so I don't feel as much movement as somebody with a posterior placenta (at the back). Only feel movement low down and at the sides too and the mw says it is all due to position of the placenta.

Hope all is well with you, some babies just seem more placid than others too!

peachygirl · 13/01/2007 20:50

My baby was very like this at this time. often very very quiet with a few bumps and kicks. We went for a gender scan and 3D picture and the baby wouldn't budge for the photo 2 weeks running!!
Now at 34 weeks it is really wiggling and the sensation I feel is quite different, more like my stomach lurching. I can also see ripples through my bump too.

Jossiejump · 13/01/2007 22:27

DS1 was always moving, DS2 didn't move much, I found that sitting down listening to one of those relaxation / visualisation tapes did the trick for me. The iced water drink is also a good idea
