One of my favourite bands, Arcade Fire, are playing at Glasgow Barrowlands on 11th and 12th March. I really, really want to go - I missed them last time round, and I don't know when they'll be touring in the UK again.

However, I'll be 36 weeks pregnant by then - almost full term. The Barrowlands is standing room only (which is as it should be) so I'll be on my feet for a couple of hours. Obviously I'd steer clear of the mosh pit, but I might get jostled a bit - AF play the sort of music people like to leap around to. The Barras does have quieter sections though where I could retreat to if it was v. messy.

What do you think? Would you go? I've never been 36 weeks pregnant before, so I don't know how feasible it is.

Tickets are on sale tomorrow morning and I thought I'd buy two and then sell them nearer the time if necessary - both dates will sell out, guaranteed.

god yes, go!!!! It'll be YEARS before you're let out again. As long as you can keep away from the mad mosh pit, don't miss the concert.

If you want to go and feel up to it, then go! I always worry about finding toilets at these sort of things which would put me off.
I stopped doing loads of things when I was pg with DS1 "just in case" and he was nearly 3 weeks late so I could have had a good Christmas instead of staying in the whole time!

BettySpaghetti · 11/01/2007 13:32

Avoid stage-diving too !

If theres somewhere to retreat to if things get hectic I'd go. Just be aware of not getting too hot (always a problem for me at gigs).

You can always see how you feel on the night and whether or not you can be bothered as , by then, a relaxing bath and an early night might have more appeal

Have fun!

I'll be going to see my favourite band at 36 weeks pregnant too! I've been to see a lot of bands whilst pregnant (although I'm only 22/23wks so not gargantuan yet) and have found that at all venues staff kept a very close eye on me, brought me water at very regular intervals and even asked if I would like to sit behind the bar for a 'rest' (I was jumping up and down like a mad thing).

If you feel well at the time then go, but make sure you take lots of water with you or check that somebody can keep you in regular supply, don't overheat and make sure you can get to the loo easily!

lazyemma · 11/01/2007 14:01

hurray! thanks guys, that's reassuring. I've still got to persuade the husband though - he is v. wary about the idea - he thinks its too near to the due date, and is also worried about the fact that by then (we're moving in Feb) the gig will be 1 1/2 hours car journey from the house. He said "but what if they launch into the first song and your waters break?"

I laughed so much he put the phone down. We're negotiating by email now.

ooh I'm going to be trying my best to get arcade fire tickets tomorrow morning too - for london gigs. One of my fave bands.

My dp and other friends when quite pregnant have attended gigs ok. I think your plan of buying tickets then seeing how you feel is a good one!

lulumama · 11/01/2007 14:07

this question has been asked before! you should go !

12yeargap · 11/01/2007 14:26

Blimey, good on you, I'm 34 weeks and i don't think I could stand for ten minutes to watch a concert if the beatles were to reform with the original line-up, and Jesus Christ on backing vocals.

But then I'm a lazy old moo.

thelittlestboho · 11/01/2007 16:25

Go for it Emma, if you end up feeling a bit tired the kind Barras security staff will allow you onto disabled platform. I've been to several gigs over the course of this pregnancy, Barfly, Garage, ABC and managed. I went to see Basement Jaxx at SECC at xmas there, despite having spd, and had a ball. was even jigging about, lol. Lasted until encore then had to take a breather but I had a brilliant time. Unfortunately Ive had to concede Bloc Party as it's just too near my edd, that I am sad about, but hpefuly I'll catch them AND The Killers at Glastonbury.

If I remember rightly, there's a raised bit at the back of the Barrowlands where they put people whoare in wheelchairs. I went to see Finley Quaye there years ago, but I had fractured ribs at the time and the kind security man let me sit up there to be safe. Maybe give the venue a ring and ask in advance if you could have access to that bit to get a seat and be safe from squashing.

Hi lazyemma - did you get your tickets today?

I just managed to get some for the last London date - not helped by my broadband packing up this morning. I got through on the good ol' telephone.

Anyway, very pleased!

marymillington · 12/01/2007 13:39

go!

but be prepared for the baby to mosh along too. may get very active when it gets loud.

Gemmitygem · 12/01/2007 14:09

I went on hols and to several concerts when 36 weeks, baby went a bit mad with the loud music (don't think it actually hurt him but he kicked frantically).

I would do the following though:

  1. make sure you can easily get to the exit and are not too crowded out by people
  2. take plenty of water, snacks etc with you
  3. have a plan b in case you have to go out halfway through

enjoy it!

lazyemma · 12/01/2007 14:14

Nooooooooo!

Eventually persuaded my husband round to the idea yesterday. But then dithered about it again this morning (mostly because of the big drive I'd have to do before and after standing for two hours during the gig itself)and by the time I made my mind up, the fricking tickets had all gone! And now the only ones are on tickettout, for bloody £95 each. Serves me right for being such a big wendy.

Thanks anyway for all your replies, guys, and I hope you have an excellent time at the gig, aDad.

boo! that's a shame emma.

It's silly, every time there is a decent band playing these days it's a huge scrum for tickets as the touts swoop down en masse.

I've missed out on lots of gigs because of this.

You never know something may come up for you? the arcade fire website has forums on it where genuine fans may sell tickets. Just an idea.
