This is outrageous, I feel for you secur.
I myself had to demand a test to my midwife and (I probably told you guys this before) she refused, saying it was not done routinely, and that I could be a carrier now and not in labour and vice versa (is that true?).
And she also said (to my amazement) that I was reading too many books and that I should stop worrying.
Excuse my french but it really pissed me off as she made me feel like a hypocondriac. When I looked into it even better I realized that a lot more pregnant women were concerned about GBS, and that there was nothing wrong with asking about the test.
In fact they shouldn't try and put you off it.
I've sent out my swabs (and paid £28 already without complaining), and will ask my doctor about the results tomorrow.
As I said I don't know if I've done the swabs correctly, do you think they would still charge me if they can't read anything? Or will they ask me to do it again? (Which might be too late now.).
I'd also like to point out that I almost gave up in the end as it was such a palava (I mean what you have to go through to get that test), so they almost succeeded in putting me off.

Hope this helps answer some of the questions that have arisen here: www.medicalscreeningsociety.com/briefs/vol9p191.pdf

When she actually said that at the time I didn't know much about GBS so I let it go. I actually believed that maybe I was making a fuss over nothing and that I did read too many books.
Now I don't believe that at all (with my PG brain I can't concentrate on too many books anyway!!! ), but all the same, if I complain, there would be a bad atmosphere between her and me until the end of my pregnancy (only got under 4 weeks to go). However I will mention it to her tomorrow when I see her, so she can change her attitude towards her future patients.
Regarding the labour plan, it's worth mentionning it, I might do that myself, as I wouldn't put it past them not to do the swabs if my waters break quite early.

I phoned the Doctors' laboratory and got the results. He said they were negative (I guess I must have done them correctly, hope so anyway).
