Hi I'm 29 weeks pg, and I'm finding I'm getting a terrible itchy stomach where all my skin is stretching.
But also my feet and ankles are itching as well - a friend said it could be high blood pressure thats causing it.
Does anyone know?

my sister had this and they looked in to her blood pressure and some thing to do with her liver i think but it turned out she was just itchy but i wouls say speak to ur midwife about it better to be safe

It could be obstetric cholestasis which is very dangerous for the baby. You need your liver function done asap.

ja9 · 10/01/2007 11:52

tell your midwife. need liver checked. nothing to panic about, but it needs taken in hand.

I had obstetric cholestasis when pg with ds, please mention itching (particularly the feet and ankles) to midwife they will do a liver function test and monitor you if you do have oc, but don't panic.
Try calomine lotion for the itching, I got through loads when I was pg and it helps to sooth the itching. I was put on tablets, had to rest at the end of my pregnancy and they delivered ds a bit early (38 weeks so not early enough to worry about). It can be serious but don't read up on the internet and panic if it is oc the doctors will look after you and it will be fine. My ds is nearly 3 now my liver function returned to normal after delivery and everything was fine.

i got pollops or some thing when i was pregnant, came up in itchy rashes all over legs, belly, back. But i did have my liver function test and it was all ok, but give your mw a call - but dont worry, your belly itch may just be your skin streching - keep creaming up x

Hi thanks for the advice.
If it is that will I have any other symptoms other than the itchy feet etc?

Hi, my BF had OC at towards the end of her pg, there were no other symptoms for her except that her soles of her feet and the palms of her hands itched beyond scrathing. It is usually worse at night. She was also delivered a little early at 37 weeks, all was fine after and her liver function returned to normal.

You should mention it to your midwife it can be serious but don't panic it is easily controlled and sorted if they know about it.

Good Luck

should I call my m/w tomorrow and mention it or can it wait til my next appointment in 2 weeks?

Also is the itchiness all the time or just at night etc? for example they are not itching now but was terrible last night?

Sorry I didn't get back earlier, cath21, it would probably be worth a call to her, see what she says if you can speak to her direct or get a telephone appointmant with her. If it is OC it will probably get worse. Yes the itching is bad at night. Not sure why? Please dn't worry, you'll be fine, it may be nothing but always safr to get it checked.

dh back in his room, he phoned earlier, sounded as if he was on his stag do!!!!!!!
Very groggy and in pain but hopefully he'll feel a bit better when we visit tommorow.
Feeling relieved now and very tired so going to leave FIL watching the football and go to bed, see if I can get soem sleep before ds wakes puking no doubt.

Anyone elses bub, sitting on the bladder at the moment? I don't have time to keep going for a wee, It's sooooo inconvienient.
Night all xxx
