Abortion (due to medical reason)

Hi

I have an abortion booked for this Friday at Marie Stopes. I'm 16 weeks and bricking it. My baby has a giant omphalocele and has been diagnosed with Edwards syndrome so has pretty much zero chances of being born alive.

Has anyone been through anything similar? It's obviously heartbreaking, hiding the pregnancy at work, crying in the loo, crying as soon as I get on the train and I've just started feeling the baby moving.

Im so sorry this has happened to you. I had a tfmr in august at 13 weeks and it was the most heartbreaking thing i have ever been through. I did find that mumsnet didnt offer much support but if you contact 'arc' you can sign up to the message boards for free and we have all been through the same thing.

Arc also offer a phoneline for information and support.

Can you not get signed off work? I had to go back pretty quick due to finance but no way could i have gone there during the days between the scan and going into hospital.

I had a TFMR in May 2015 after a lethal diagnosis and it was the worst time of my life. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Take some time off work if you can, you are going through a terrible ordeal and you need time to process it. Are you having surgical or medical management? I had the latter and although I had a bad reaction it was the best option for me and recovery (physical) was quick. If you go for the same route, please ask for as much pain relief as you need. I also second Primary's suggestion of phoning ARC, they are wonderful.

My heart goes out to you. I had tfmr last Sept at 12 weeks. I opted for d&c and despite physically being fine a week later I needed the 3 weeks off my doctor signed off just to get to a place where I could get through a day without hiding in the loo. Please get yourself signed off if you can and spend time with loved ones. As others suggested, contact arc as well. I just want to let you know that although there seems to be no light at this particular time, things do get easier to manage, you just need to ask for help when you need it. Big hugs xx
