dried fruit...figs, apricots, prunes

lots and lots of water

you can;t hurt the baby..but the straining might give you piles!!

if that doesn;t work, there is lactulose or fybogel,..check with midwif e/ doc...not sure if they ar prescription only .

SHHHH · 07/01/2007 18:19

Fybrogel is safe in pregnancy..in fact I think its now called..............senekot..??? Ask the pharmasist as I got it over the counter. In fact the box actually says it helps women in pregnancy.

I sympathise with you..I wasn't a daily type before baby but atm its around every 3 days .Not ideal or comfortable.

Hope things improve. xx

Bran flakes...worked wonders for me and still are

Scootergirl · 07/01/2007 18:20

Kiwi fruit... strange but true x

Anglaise1 · 07/01/2007 18:29

Scootergirl,
that is interesting, I'm worried because I'm NOT constipated, especially as I have to take iron supplements. I eat a kiwi fruit every day, so maybe that is why!

LupinsBigLump · 07/01/2007 18:55

I have just been drinking loads of water or very weak squash - still a bit hard but alot lot better

wilkie50 · 07/01/2007 20:12

Drink GALLONS of fresh orange juice (I swear by Tropicana) but I have been prescribed Lactulose too which worked like a charm - you have my total sympathy

twickersmum · 07/01/2007 20:34

not very PC i know, but a cup of real coffee (like you make in a cafetiere) should get you moving...

paulaplumpbottom · 07/01/2007 20:51

I like bran flakes. I hardly ever get constipated.

MKG · 07/01/2007 20:53

Try doing some walking, some times it helps to work it out.

popsycal · 07/01/2007 20:54

yakult yoghurt drin thing is the only thing that sorted me out with ds2

MrsHarry · 07/01/2007 23:07

Definitely Fibrogel. It's available without prescription but if you see your GP he might prescribe it for you and then it's free!! It's not called Senekot, i think that's a different product. I have mild IBS so have been prescribed Fibrogel for yonks, take it morning and night and if I don't take it I can't go!! I also have to have Branflakes and loads of water and fruit (especially grapes).

midnightexpress · 10/01/2007 12:10

Hi frazzledazzle

If you're still bunged up, try linseeds - they've worked for me through 2 pregnancies. You can sprinkle a couple of spoonsful on cereal or in yogurt, or get bread with them in. Added advantage is that they're really good for teh baby - full of omega 3, so you might end up with a brainy baby too!

Leoladyofleisure · 10/01/2007 13:26

Taking a magnesium supplement will help. and a big glass of applejuice (at least a pint, I mix it with water) first thing in the morning before eating anything.

Booboobedoo · 10/01/2007 13:31

Second the linseeds.

I've suffered from IBS since I was a child, and they worked miracles on me. Found Fybogel just bunged everything up more.

Weirdly, now I'm pg, I'm regular as clockwork.

glitterkitty · 10/01/2007 13:52

Glass of sunsweet prune juice everyday was quick & worked for me!
