Hi

I'm suffering really badly with constipation and although lactulose helped initially it's doing nothing for me just now and I've been taking it everyday for the last week.

I've tried upping my fibre and water but really need something to help. Does anyone know if sennokot is okay to take on a one off? Or are there any other laxatives that are safe to take? I'm even debating whether to have a cup of slimatea to get things moving Sad

Hi, I feel your pain!

I tried senakot as read it was ok to take, but it did nothing.

If you want to try a completely natural option I highly recommend prune juice, it works straight away for me. And it's 1 of your 5 a day.

Boots and holland and Barret sell a laxative called fruit and fibres they are chewy cubes they work really if the senokot doesnt work and they are safe in pregnancy

I wouldn't take anything with Senna in it as itv souls theoretically cause uterine contractions. I drank lots of water, ate shreddies and took Lactulose and all that helped me

No Senna! Not allowed in pregnancy.
Get t the doctors and ask for Movicol, it was my saviour in three pregnancies. Apparently you can now buy it over the counter, just don't say your pregnant! Honestly people won't sell you anything when you're pregnant!

No to Senokot, not worth risking uterine contractions!!! Especially in 1st / 3rd tri. Definitely go with Movicol, it's brilliant stuff. You can buy it over the counter and it's safe in pregnancy. I'd try that before Lactulose - can make you very very windy and is more explosive / unpredictable in effects. Movicol can take a day or two to get things moving but try to be patient and it really will help. If you have very hard poo inside the rectum / anus, you might try glycerin suppositories but although safe in pregnancym they might be funny about letting you have them without prescription if you're visibly pregnant. Good luck

Oh and OP, I have zero knowledge of slimatea but suggest avoiding it - it sounds like it might also be a stimulant laxative (unlike Lactulose and Movicol) and that whole family of laxatives are a no-no.

Movicol is also called Macrogol or Laxido BTW, if that helps
