I'm 28 weeks pregnant with DC2 and really struggling with spd, much worse than I had in my first pregnancy. After seeing so many people in mumsnet recommend seeing an osteopath, today I went and it was SO WEIRD!! I don't know much about osteopathy so I'm not sure what I was expecting but I'd love to hear your experiences. What did the osteopath actually do? Did you feel an improvement straight away?

I saw an osteopath, and it didn't help much.

Physio did help.

The thing that helped most though was Alexander technique lessons, about how to move with bump with minimum impact. It may have helped that it was something I'd done before, but going through the lease stressful ways of getting out of chairs, rolling over when lying down and just standing neutrally really did help. Especially the rolling over bit as that made a big difference to how I slept.

I've had hydrotherapy once a week with my physio and its been bliss, it's really been a relief to get in the water. I also have a belt & a giant tubagrip thing for my hips from her.
I struggle to get help as I have RA and most practitioners are scared of causing damage, and very very few specialise in pregnancy and RA.

Thanks LBOC. I've actually already booked another osteopath appointment for Thursday. I just have to try one more time to see if there's any improvement because I'm struggling. I spoke to the lady on the phone and feel much more confident about her experience this time, but let's see. If it goes well I'll post her details here in case it can help anyone else.

Ruby I'm in Cambridge, could you let me know the details of your chiro please?
Does anyone else have any recommendations for people in or around Cambridge. I'm 24 weeks now and the pain is awful.

I had spd badly with my first pregnancy. At the end, old ladies on the pavement were desperate to get around me! I went to the NHS physio with no improvement and they even tried acupuncture which was also useless! Of course the tube they gave is helpful anyway for relieving weight in pressure.

NOW, i'm pregnant again and the SPD is worse and has onset much sooner. This time I was adamant about going to an Osteo since I read so much about them with last pregnancy, but I'm so disappointed. Three treatments on and no improvement. I'm hesitant to try a different Osteo just because of the cost every time! From reading other comments, it sounds mine was doing cranial as well. I think I just want someone to twisty and pop me into place and I want to walk away cured! Is that too much to ask? I'm desperate to have the success stories that I see after seeing an Osteo. So if anyone in the Leeds/Bradford area has a Osteo or Chiro they recommend, I may give another go (and make sure the Osteo does more than cranial).

Much appreciated!
