Should I be using one of these? I have a tendency to sleep on my back, which I know I have to get out of the habit of. Can recommend any pillows or know where I can get a cheap one from?

Thanks

ive got one filled with balls with a bump support and its so shapeable and comfy but i borrowed mine ask around someone might sort you out

TheBlonde · 06/01/2007 21:27

I have the BigV one - you can get it at John Lewis or Bumpto3
If you're in London I think I saw one for sale on Nappyvalley.co.uk

dressedupnowheretogo · 06/01/2007 21:28

thats the one

choochootrain · 06/01/2007 21:31

Don't get the double-sided wedge-type ones NCT do - I thought mine was a waste of money. Nowhere near supportive enough.

Proper bump pillows are really expensive. You could just get a cheap bolster pillow that would do the job.

bumperlicious · 06/01/2007 21:34

Can you use the v pillows at night? Where do you put them?

Hopefully you can see the pic pic
You kinda wrap your leg over them
I use mine in bed

MKG · 06/01/2007 21:39

I usually fall asleep with a pillow between my knees. It's cheaper than buying a special one.

try nct nearly new sales

Indith · 06/01/2007 21:49

I have one like this and I love it very very much!

winestein · 06/01/2007 21:55

Get a bog standard V-shaped pillow from Argos, Dunhelm, or wherever is near you. I slept on my back until the latter stages when it was more comfortable to put one stick of the v between my legs and rest the bump on the other. Does the same job, half or less the price (IMO)

paulaplumpbottom · 06/01/2007 22:02

I to hated the wedge, absolute waste of money.

SlightlyMadScientist · 06/01/2007 22:07

I used a scatter cushion from the couch. Used to call it Bub & Bobs pillow when I was pregant with Bub & Bob (DTDs!).

NappiesGalore · 06/01/2007 22:09

i had the edge and never used it either.

i had the V shaped thing and never really used that much either... tho i did use it when bf'ing in my sleep at night w newborn ds3.

agree normal pillows will do the job...you just need something to put between your knees to take the strain off your hip.
btw, sleeping on your back when heavily pg cuts off the blood supply to the uterus - so best not to do that i would think

NappiesGalore · 06/01/2007 22:10

lol - the edge. i meant the wedge.

I think that it also depends on how advanced your pregnancy is/how big you are - I've got a dream genii pillow and, even though I'm not big enough yet to get the full benefit of it, it certainly helps me to settle down to sleep at night. I don't think that they're cheap although I'm not sure of the exact price as I had mine as a Christmas present.

I would also recommend using normal pillows - pop one between your knees to relieve weight and pressure on your hips and spine and tuck another under your bump to give it some support. If you're having a lot of lower back pain, you could put another pillow there to rest against and take some of the pressure off. It's a lot of pillows, I know, but if it works for you, it'll be cheaper than forking out for a special pillow. Hope this helps!

i had this bean bag one here which i found brilliant to get comfy in bed when pregnant, then used when breastfeeding to support my arm/baby, then used it to prop up baby into an upright position/before sitting upright, and now it is still on the sofa being used by all and sundry!
certainly not a waste of money imo - the beans make it really adaptable.

peachygirl · 07/01/2007 15:30

I've got a wedge one from mothercare £9.99. I do use it in bed and on the sofa for both my bump and to tilt my back a little if I am lying on my back.
I went to an NCT class yeasterday and talked about how I invariably wake up on my back and the tutor said at the end of the day getting sleep is paramount and not to worry about it.

cryingatthediscoteque · 07/01/2007 22:19

I had a bean filled one, but the sound of the beans squishing stopped me sleeping. Then I got one of those double sided wedge things where you sleep in the middle, but the wedgy bits were too far away from my bump! Now I just use a really soft feather pillow. I would rather have a mattress with a big hole in it so I could sleep on my front though!!
