Hi, does anyone know what happens if protein is found in your urine when pregnant but your bp is up and down. Feet are swollen too. I have a check up today and am not looking forward to the prospect of been sent home again and worrying about whether my bp is up.TIA. x

gosh,.right.....pack your bags and get sorted!!

LOL

exciting, no?

BUT - induction can mean ending up stuck on a bed..if possible, stay mobile, ask if you can walk around and have i intermittent monitoring esp before you are in established labour....

how was your cervix at your appt...soft? dilating? anterior?
anything in your notes??

Daisypops · 08/01/2007 14:23

Lulu-exciting and nreve racking as I didn;t expect this. As I've said on 'due Jan' thread that you may have seen, MW was saying BP is fine today, bub happy but then blood was up a bit. Its strange because I had a problem free pregnancy til about 33 weeks even then it was minor problems like carpal tunnel and swollen ankles.

Notes say:

Dilation 0
Length of cervix 2
Station -3
Consistency medium
Position posterior

Now I'm no doctor but looking at that it doesn't seem as though bub is wanting to come out naturally just yet. Am I right?x

Daisypops, when I was induced the only thing I had going for me, was that I was 1/2 cm dilated. I was induced for the same reason as you. I have to say that 24 hours after the put in the prostaglandin, and 12 hours after they broke my waters, and started the pitocin drip, I delivered my ds.

Go in knowing that a C-section is on the table but that doesn't mean that it's in the cards for you. My attitude was to accept what came to me.

Oh, and eat like a horse before you go in. Here in the States the protocal is not to allow food or drinks once the drip is put in.

Good Luck to you. Now pack your bag, make sure the carseat is ready, and take a nap.

Bishops score...how to 'test' readiness for induction

now, i am not a doctor, midwife, or health care professional..but looking at what is in your notes and comparing to the bishops score table..your score is 2, i think.

a good score , showing you are favourable , is 6 or more.

my inclination, and i do not want to advise you to risk your health or the baby's health, is to ask for induction to be delayed, but maybe they will take you on the ante natal ward, where you and baby can be monitored closely, and are safe until you are ready for induction, or even spontaneous labour

it might be that you have a pessary ., 3 hours later you are dilating and getting to labour........or not...but as you have said, it doesn;t look like baby ready to come quite yet.

also, with induction, you might well end being monitored and unable to move for long periods, if at all, which doesn' help labour to get going and progress.

i absolutely understand that there are real fears you are progressing towards pre eclampsia....and that is not ideal..

maybe you can discuss an alternative plan, of going in to hospital but not being induced just yet...

also, the fact you know yourself baby is not quite ready to come can be a real factor in inhibiting labour....you need to feel confident in the process your body is undertaking...

i must reiterate, that i am not a trained professional, and you must do all you can to keep you and LO safe and healthy..but your body, based on that, is not ready yet

try some visualisations tonight, of the cervix ripening, opening and baby moving down..who knows how things might have changed in the morning...

what ever happens.. i wish you a happy birth !x

Lulu, I'm going on an ante-natal ward first then the delivery suite. Suire;y yhry wouldn't have suggested inductionnif it wasn't necessary?

lulumama · 08/01/2007 20:39

absolutely, it it necessary....but if your body is not quite ready, might be a very long drawn out process. so might be worth hanging on a day or two if it is safe for you and baby

i imagine you will be reassessed and monitored on the ward, then the process will start........

i bet you can;t believe you are meeting your baby in a day or so?!?! have you packed your bags? make sure you get a good nights sleep , if you are not too excited ! and nervous x

I do now that when I was induced with ds1, they said it would take 4 days to start as I was nowhere near ready, it took several hours.

I also know, daisy if it reassures you, that I ahve had 3 babies, 2 not induced, and despite all I heard there was no significant discomfort difference in any of them- the induction is automatically worse thing isn't necessarily true.

Good luck XX

divastrop · 08/01/2007 20:53

daisy-i was induced with all 4 of mine due to pre-eclampsia.the first they kept putting off and i ended up in hospital for 2 weeks.

with my 2nd the high bp came on earlier but was up and down,i was induced at 38weeks but it was quick and the paed said dd1 was full term at birth(ie she was going to arrive soon anyway thats why the induction was easy).

the first 2 were badly managed, horrible experiences but i am now lucky(im expecting no.5 in march)my consultant where i live now is very careful when it comes to high bp.i was induced at 38 weeks with my last 2 also,it took 3 days,3 pessaries,my waters being broken plus a few hours on the drip each for them to come out as they werent ready.but both births were very positive experiences,i was only on the monitor for 40mins proir to and after putting the pessaries in,then i was allowed to walk round etc.even when i was on the drip and being constantly monitored i mnaged to give birth on all 4's.

find out as much as you can about induction first, and about pain relief(i was drugged upto the eyballs when i had my first which was awful)and make sure your dh is prepared as well.

all the best.

ps-i was allowed to eat my dinner while i was hooked to the drip

Thanks for sharing your advice and experiences everyone.

I'm excited about meeting our baby but very nervous, must try not to be!

My mum has just been to help me get house in order and finish packing as I can hardly walk! Just got last minute things to put in like toothbrush etc.

I'm suprised that it can take 3/4 days peachyclair and divastrop?

I would say I never had the drip though, just pessaries.

I'm excited for you (and so, so jealus!)

good luck

divastrop · 08/01/2007 22:04

i was only given the drip last time cos i begged them,i wanted to get it over with

i will add that with no 3+4 it was 3 days of minimal discomfort off+on,and alot of walking around or sitting on a birthing ball reading magazines(not an unpleasant experience).

with no2 i was given a pessary at 10.30am,was 4cm dilated at 8pm and delivered at 2.50am the following morning.

i'm too,i have to wait 2 more months to meet mine!
