nursery furnature and sets

Just decorating the nursery for our first baby due in July, little boy!
Just wondering where has anyone seen nice furnature sets? Totally stumped as to where to look!
We're looking for a nice set including a cot bed but didn't want to pay more than around £600

Do you need a set? Other than a cot, the baby doesn't need anything that normal furniture wouldn't provide and the sets are very expensive for what they are.

Most nursery set are only suitable for young children. Cost wise it would better to buy furniture you like and a separate cot bed. Try John Lewis, Mama and Papa suppliers, IKEA or mothercare if you really want a set or for the cot bed.

We bought a wooden set on eBay and got the lot for £60. Have it a good clean and it's on child 2. I wouldn't pay new prices as, as the PPs say, they're only rally useful for tiny ones.

I really didn't think of getting a cot and separate furnature! And suppose it would last alot longer too! I will have a look, thankyou!

Second hand was a great saving for us. Got a lot from local Facebook sites, even got a cot for free for my parents house!

We like the look of John Lewis' Marlow cot bed but in the end we have been given one. It is cheap but looks good. The IKEA cots seem flimsy but I like there other furniture.

We just got cotbed from kiddicare for £150ish, then a wardrobe and chest of drawers from argos for less than £100 each, changing mat on top of drawers. The nursery sets are just a rip off!

Have you been to a mamas & papas factory shop? We've got a few things from one and the prices are so much cheaper, I've seen quite a lot of nursery sets reduced by half (if you don't mind a few scuffs from when they were display models). They also have good deals prams and bouncers, rockers etc :)

There's a seller called nursery savings on eBay. They sell returned or discontinued Mothercare and John Lewis furniture. We got an £600 set for £200. It's free next day delivery too.

I think it's the Marlow range they have as it's been discounted.

We got loads of bits from there no problem at all, all brand new. Just watch out for items going for near the sale prices, not that much of a bargain.

Hi, we decided against the formal sets and spent our budget on a versatile crib which will expand into a childs bed. We went for the Stokke Sleepi and eventually got one on offer and used cash back site to get the price down to around £350.

We've reused a lot of furniture we had just rearranged and put soft furnishings and pictures on the wall.

I used this site for inspirationprojectnursery.com and their instagram account is nursery porn! Ikea hacks sites are also good for finding inspiration and cheaper alternatives. Our changing table is ikea with anthropology handles which we got in the sale for £2.50 each (reduced from £12).

I got a set from mamas and papas, I can't remember the name but I think it was one of the cheaper sets. It was around £500 all in.
The cot turns into a toddler bed, the wardrobe is a good size, I reckon can easily be used into teenage years, and the changing table is just a really good size chest of drawers with a removable top, so again can be used for years.
It's really sturdy too. I'm really pleased with it.

If you're up north, go to the Mamas and Papas factory shop, close to junction 25 of the m62. It's the luck of the draw as to what they have in when you go, but I got a pram for £40.

That said, I never had a nursery set or saw the need for one - we bought a second hand John Lewis cot for £30 and just used ordinary IKEA furniture.
