Polycystic Ovaries

Hi all! So I am new to MN.. I am 35+3 weeks pregnant which was a lovely surprise considering I was about to undergo treatment for my polycystic ovaries.. (I have / had around 15 cysts which were causing hormone problems and queries about how easy I would be able to conceive in the future.) Although slightly earlier in life than I expected (I am 23 years old) my partner and I are very happy I was able to conceive!

I just wanted to ask if anyone else has suffered from polycystic ovaries and if it cleared up after pregnancy? I have heard that pregnancy can cure it. It has always been the bain of my life what with extra body hair, being overweight (although I do not look overweight, when I step on the scales I can't understand how I am much heavier than I look) I have always had an extremely active lifestyle, training dressage horses 6 days a week and working out 3 evenings a week. Admittedly my diet is not strict but I wouldn't say I over-eat. Another symptom is my very irregular periods and problems with most pills/ forms of contraception.

Basically, I would love to know if the symptoms have been reported to improve after birth as it is something that has always got me down!!

Any of you experienced positive changes after birth or heard of anyone who has?!

T.I.A :)
Jess

Yes I do think agnus cactus worked for me too. I'd been TTC for 16 months the first time, took it and was pregnant within 2 months. This time I started it a few months before TTC and fell pregnant the first month. I think they do say tablet form takes a few months to get into your system.

Thanks Pinkparsnips did you use a different form of AC then, rather than tablets? Has anyone any experience of it restarting AF? I don't have the overweight symptom or the acne or the increased facial hair but I have the POs and the irregular AFs. Well, only since January, they were regular to the DAY before that. Anyone else have something similar?

No experience of it restarting periods I'm afraid. Pink is right though that taking AC has a cumulative effect - apparently it can take up to 3 months to reach peak effectiveness. I think in my case it steadied and rebalanced my hormones at different times in my cycle meaning that in the second half of my cycle my progesterone levels were sufficient to sustain pregnancy, whereas before they weren't. This had the effect of regularising what used to be very irregular periods. But the fact that I had periods, though irregular, suggested I was at least ovulating - albeit irregularly and probably not every cycle. With a total lack of periods I am not sure of the success of AC.

I took the tablet form and it seemed to work very quickly for me the first time, within 1 or 2 months my cycles went down from an average of 50-60 days to about 32 days consistently and then I fell pregnant a few months later. This time around I started taking it a few months before TTC and didn't really notice a difference with my cycles (in fact I didn't ovulate until day 41!) but I did fall pg that first month.
You can also buy it in liquid form which is supposed work a little quicker.
