I'm 17 years old, took the levonelle morning after pill and think I'm pregnant.

Does it seems as though I'm pregnant if I have the following symptoms..?
-left side only cramps
-spotting
-nausea
-lots of discharge
-hot flashes

I had sex about a week and a half ago but have no idea when my last period was, which is really bad... I just cannot remember the date. I took a pregnancy test a week after I had sex but it came back negative and I'm really worried as I think I am.

I'm on my second coil and no children. They don't mind as much more recently
Think they were stricter about it in the past

Doctors are now happy to put coils in women who haven't had children. Coils are actually very fashionable amongst young female doctors. I didn't get on with the Mirena myself, but I now have the copper coil and love it to bits.

That being said, 17 may be a bit young for a coil (youngest patient I know of having one was 19; most are well into their 20s). Probably the best idea would be for you to book an appointment with the family planning clinic, or see a GP in your practice who fits coils and implants, and discuss your options.

Have you thought about the implant? Once it's in, you don't have to think about it for 3 years, and it's more commonly used in teenagers than the coil Smile

Hi OP, they sound like morning after pill side affects to me too. If you end up going to the family planning clinic I'd mention them as I got horrible side effects from the morning after pill and when I tried the normal pill as well...I think some people just react more or less to hormones, at least then the dr will have a heads up to advise you better.

"I have also heard something about levonelle being ineffective when you ovulate?"

This is not true. Levornelle prevents 85% of pregnancies which would otherwise you have been expected. A pregnancy can, of course, only start if ovulation has occurred (irrespective of whether you have taken anything). So this is a garble - MAP is effective for the majority.

"I am worried because of "pre-cum" and getting pregnant"

Pre-cum carries STDs, but not all men have sperm in it (discovered during HIV research). You can't know for sure about your sexual partner unless he happens to have been tested (unlikely, unless he volunteered as a subject in academic research). Take it seriously for future contraception, but right now try to put it our of your mind, as stress can interfere with cycle.

MAP can muck up cycle by 5 days or so, so I think you need to retest at the 14 and 19 day point after the potentially unprotected incident.

For future contraception, I recommend going to a branch of the Brook Advisory Centre if it's at all possible to get to one.

Thanks for all the info everyone Smile
Does anyone know what increases/decreases the chances of levonelle working? Also is 2 weeks later/ after sex a good time to do another pregnancy test?

The chances of you being pregnant I would suggest are practically 0.

Not only did he wear a condom you took the morning after pill which if you took straight away is extremely effective. The only thing that I believe can decrease its effectiveness is time.

Do you know the date of your last period? You say your mum is keeping track? And suspects your period is due about now, do you know when? An early response pregancy test (pink one) will pick up a pregnancy super early, use one of those on the day your period is due and it is 99% accurate - but the chance of you being pregnant I would say is extremely extremely low.

If your not on the pill get the app Iperiod and start tracking so you know when you are most fertile (maybe you'd want to avoid) and when your period is due and make your boyfriend wear a condom for the entire time to be safe on all fronts.

Copper coil was great for me. Zero hassle and no artificial hormones messing with my mind.

FWIW I remember 17yo pregnancy scares and how awful they were but it doesn't sound to me like you are.

Okay thanks for reassuring me everyone. I'll take a few more tests over the coming weeks and hopefully everything will be okay
