Does anyone know the reflexology points to kick start labour?

Well, it's a good excuse for having your feet rubbed...

you'd need to be shown!! BUT I can tell you roughly that outer heels and allong outer edge of foot when stimulated might help strengthen contractions. It's a little bump that is there.... but my reflesolgist showed me specifically!!

It's didnt start labour for me... but I think it helped- he came FAST!!!

:D

it;s too early ! somewhere round the ankle bone and big toe...!! not sure of specifics!

ita big toe too- had forgotten that bit

dig your fingernail into edge of nail bed of big toe and hold for three minutes, repeat other foot. IT HURTS!!!! but you have to do both feet or it wont work. had reflexology to induce labour (not sure if it worked)

Thanks for advice! (and Lulumama, I KNOW due date is 2 and half weeks away, but it can't hurt to be prepared, surely. Ok, ok, I admit it. I'm desperate to get the baby out. Booked for home birth and midwife said she was expecting my call soon! )

Its a combination of outerside of big toe, outer and inner ankle. You do really need to be shown though. Best idea is to book a full seesion with a reflexologist (look on the association of reflexologists website for your nearest one) and whilst they are with ask them to show you at the end of the session. They will be able to show you the relative points on the foot and hand. In an early labour though - unless your babe really is ready.

seriously - go and have a proper session. or two. its utter bliss. a good reflexologist would probably be confident in helping to get everything in balance to give you the best chances of getting going.

but, briefly:

  • pituitary gland: underside of big toe, between the creases
  • uterus: the midpoint of an imaginary line between inner anklebone bone and edge of your heel
walk the tip of your forefinger towards these points from all directions in a kind of "caterpillar" movement

Both DD and DS were about two weeks late. I ended up having waters broken with DS, and just managed to beat the deadline for DD and went into labour naturally. I had reflexology treatments during both pregnancies and have no idea whether it had any effect, but it is the best excuse ever to have a very relaxing treatment.

I must also say that you should not be digging in fingernails down the sides of nails or anywhere else, no way Hose.

i went for reflexology when i was a few days overdue,it didnt work but it was pure bliss! then tried acupuncture which works for some- but not me!!!! that wasnt quite so enjoyable

I had a session when 39wks gone as I couldn't wait any longer. My whole body felt very strange within a couple of minutes of the session starting. Waters broke 2hours later. I'm utterly convinced it was the relexology. I had booked that reflexologist specifically though as she specialised in pregnancy and bringing on labour when overdue. I checked with mw before and she said it was ok to do this from 39wks. Labour was quick too.
