Does anyone have any advice as to what clothes to buy a New Born in Turkey in July please ? We will be moving in April and i have no idea. Some people have been saying thin long sleeve for the first few days? Thank you

My DD was born in an extended UK heat wave a couple of years ago. I was wearing a vest top, shorts and flip flops and still felt overly warm to put it slightly in context. The first few weeks I dressed her in a sleepsuit only, with a cellular blanket over her at night. After that I had some short sleeved short legged rompers for her with socks. I just checked her temperature by feeling her back and chest periodically. IMO it's better to dress them cooler and add layers if they get cold, as overheating is very dangerous for babies whereas if they are a bit chilly they'll just cry. It's easy to pop on a thin cardi if they feel cold.

I had dd in Cyprus in September. In hospital they still dressed her the way they would in the UK so vest,sleepsuit and cardigan! It was 30 degrees!

At home I just didn't bother with the cardigan and I got the lightest cotton vests and sleepsuits I could find.

Did the same as pp re blankets. Sometimes I just used a pram sheet though.

I had 2 of mine in the middle of heat waves abroad, they were dressed in vest and sleepsuit for the first day or so (used to 37c after all), but spend their time in short sleeve vest or just a nappy after that - it was 37-40 degrees.

Used a big muslin as blanket.

Will you have a/c at home?

DS was born in June a couple of years ago and it was the start of a very hot summer. He pretty much just wore a nappy and a short sleeve vest most of the time.

You will be absolutely fine in Istanbul, it will be very hot and get hotter in August still but everything you need can be easily purchased there. Big UK department stores like M&S, H&M etc.

Also, English speaking home help for about 25 pounds a day...nannies are also a fraction of UK costs.

And it's a beautiful, culturally rich city, Turkish people generally love children and the food is spectacular. You'll have an amazing time.
