Placenta acting as shock absorber?

Hey I just wondered if anyone can help I had my 20 week scan Friday and was amazed the sonographer said that the placenta is at front so it's acting like a shock absorber, does this eventually move on its own? They didn't really explain it and I see the midwife in 5 weeks. Any help would be appreciated started googling it then it comes up with some stuff I don't want to read about as Google does. It's my first thanks in advance x

It basically means that it cushions the movements you might feel from baby as its kicking the placenta and not you directly. I have an anterior placenta and felt movements a little later, feel movements to the bottom and side, movements can be softer and sometimes sporadic as it tucks itself in behind the placenta. It wont move from the front but might move up as your belly grows out! Its nothing to worry about, youll still get movement and a pattern that's normal for you.

If you think about your placenta as a mark on a balloon, as the balloon grows the mark moves round (usually!). Mine was at the bottom at 20 weeks so I have a scan on Thursday (36 weeks) to determine if it's moved. It's really only low laying/covering placentas that are a concern during labour afaik.

Have you been able to feel kick my partner can't wait and is hoping he'll be able to feel it xx

I have an anterior placenta (at the front) and I feel loads of strong kicks. My partner can feel them easily and I can sometimes see them move my tummy too. I'm 26 weeks and started feeling movement sporadically at 16 weeks. I tend to feel it to the top, sides, and very low down, presumably because the placenta is front middle. You might have to wait a little longer, but I'm sure you'll feel kicks eventually.

My placenta is anterior also and I couldn't really feel much real movement until about 22 weeks - before that I just had occasional very faint, indeterminate flutterings which could equally have been gas! I am now 25 weeks and can feel regular, very definite kicks and wriggling but DH still can't feel anything.

I felt very early kicks which is characteristic of a low laying or posterior placenta-anterior placentas are often well known for absorbing the kicks and I know a friend of mine felt very little until 24 weeks. Don't worry-you'll soon be kept up all night by them I'm sure!
