Would you go on a 40 mile sponsored walk while 25weeks pregnant?

Have a reasonable level of fitness, do quite intensive Pilates and yoga a few times a week, but obviously don't walk that kind of distance at all. It's a slowish pace with a few stops along the way and I signed up to do it and got sponsorship before I got pregnant.

Thank you everyone! You gave me the reactions I wanted and it makes me feel less guilty about not taking part! I'm currently 16 weeks but will be 25 when the walk comes.

Don't feel guilty! I am 22 weeks and have suddenly got SPD out of nowhere. I can barely walk around the supermarket. I have seen how my fit and active DB looked after a 40 mile walk and there is no way I could do that at any stage of pregnancy!

No way, you just don't know how you'll feel by then.
I'm 26wks and last week I felt fine but this week my back is aching and my hips are hurting and if I walk for more than about 5 mins I get Brixton hicks that are as painful as stitch. Def better idea to pull out sooner rather than later, as others have said people will understand, they won't expect a 25wk pregnant women to be walking 40m!

No. And I speak as someone who was at the gym and active until the end of both pregnancies. But there's a world of difference between a couple of minutes jogging on a treadmill and 40 miles outside.

Wanderingwondering · 06/03/2016 10:12

Gosh no! I did a 60 mile walk last year, not pregnant and it took a lot of training and it still ruined my body for months.
I did plenty of walking in pregnancy but 10 miles at a time max

malvinandhobbes · 06/03/2016 12:07

No. I was very fit pre-pregnancy and still working out 4-5 times a week now at 20 weeks.

Last weekend we did a 10 mile walk and I felt a little achey in my pelvis any more and I would have been hobbling. This isn't the time for endurance.

Junosmum · 06/03/2016 12:48

I would have, but I do a lot of walking. At 25weeks I felt fine but would have DH carry stuff.

gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 06/03/2016 13:01

No. It would be silly.

VeryPunny · 06/03/2016 13:09

No, and I say that as someone who cycled more than 200 miles in 15 hours during 1st trimester.

And given how much food I packed away in the 2nd tri, I don't see how I could have eaten enough to manage walking that distance as well as being pregnantBlush

VeryPunny · 06/03/2016 13:10

Also, the event insurance would probably have two fits at the very idea!

MrsRolly · 06/03/2016 16:19

No! I did 44 coast path not pregnant and it was tough and I was fairly fit at the time. I'm currently 21 weeks and doing 10/15 in one day is my max at the moment. I have signed up for a 30 miler in sept, baby due in July and if I can't do it close to the time I won't. Agree the event organiser would prob have a fit if they knew and wouldn't let you anyway!

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 06/03/2016 20:52

Actually Very has the solution. Contact the event and check that they will let you take part. Chance are they will have hysterics and you can say quite honestly "apologies - not allowed to take part due to knocked upness" with no guilt.

StormTr00per · 06/03/2016 22:01

Definitely wouldn't. I was very fit before becoming pg (kickboxing/running/yoga) but got struck with SPD about 21 weeks and couldn't walk more than 10 minutes without severe pain. . And that was at granny pace. Not something I expected at all.

sophied1983 · 10/03/2016 20:16

I did a 40 mile walk when I wasn't pregnant and it was hell on earth. I had a good level of fitness too.

I wouldn't do it.

suz1rr · 10/03/2016 22:20

I regularly go long distance walks at the weekend, anywhere between 15 and 23 miles a day, usually including some hills, and I am currently 26 weeks pregnant, and 8 miles is now my maximum before I start feeling tired. My level of fitness is really good, and I am still walking my dogs daily, but I definitely can't do anywhere near my "normal".
