Hi just wondered - my baby is lyong in a transverse position and has done for a few weeks. At what point will I the midwife consider an early c-section or is it still very likely to turn? Someone told me it was dangerous to go into natural labour when the baby is lying this way?

Elibean had a tranny. They did do an early section on her. She's not on a lot atm but I think her first was the same.

yo cannot deliver a transverse baby vaginally...so if baby stays transverse, you will need a c,s

however, babies can turn or be turned!

how many weeks are you & is this your first?

mojomands · 03/01/2007 10:07

I'm 36 weeks and this is my second baby.

look at

tips to turn a breech baby! and i think a few for transverse!

also, have you been offered an ECV ?

think you can have that for a transverse lie

also,

might be some info on here too...

the reason it is not recommended to go into labour with a transverse baby is that the head is not engaged , nor is the bottom, there is a danger the cord could come down before the baby if the waters go, which is not a great situation to be in

if that doens;t happen, with a transverse baby the presenting part is presumed to be the shoulder, and there is no way to deliver a baby vaginally like this...

so c.s is the best and only way to go !

I wonder if very active babies are typical of transcerse lie? Eli always talked about hers switching position a lot.

My DTs were a transverse lie and then the addded complication of a presented cord meant that there was no way I could have had a vaginal birth (and I really wanted one sigh........). My DTs changed position so often that I think of them as my spinning babies.

Hopefully yours will turn (I didn't think my DTs could cos I swear there was no space left) and you'll be able to deliver vaginally. There is, however, no guarantee.
