For ladies who are consultant-led, what does this mean. Who do you see and how often during your pregnancy?

The screening midwife is the one who's attached to the ultrasound dept and will give you all the info you need if there are any problems post scan but they also know all the referral procedures. Have you rang the hospital who do the scans because sometimes they have a cardiac liason nurse who can advise wtc

Got the call. My booking appointment is when I ll be just over 9 weeks and will be with the Supervisor of Midwife so the lady I complained to with my first and who did not answer my questions that I had sent by email and who told me I should have said something earlier :( So not happy. She was patronising and made me feel really tiny..

Can you refer yourself to another maternity unit/hospital?

Cassie2015 · 02/03/2016 19:26

I need to keep the hospital. It's just the maternity unit I'm not happy about. This one is just the one the GP told me to go to when I was pregnant with my first. How do I find out about others?

I think it depends where you are. There's no maternity unit in my area so I could self refer one of the three neighbouring areas. Further afield, I don't think they would have to take me on (I'm imagining my health trust has an arrangement with the other 3 as I've never known them to turn down others where I live.)

Perhaps look at your local health trusts website under maternity services?

I think if you explain your history at booking in you should be referred to consultant led care/extra baby checks from there. I booked t 9/10 weeks and saw consultant at 12 for aspirin, 20 weeks, 22, 28 (scan as well) and will see again at 34 (with scan). I am at the hospital weekly for checks but would imagine the pathway might be different if baby needed extra checks. I would just insist on referral to feral team at booking due to your history. I dropped the community team as am at the hospital so frequently there was little point in continuing to see them!

Best of luck and hope this helps.

You will have your booking appointment and have your unchallenged scan. Community midwives will refer you to appropriate consultants which may be fetal medicine consultants who, know more about your circumstances. At your unchallenged scan they will book follow up scans appropriately. Most cases will require you to go through your community midwives

Sorry, I meant your nuchal scan, not unchallenged...bloody autocorrect.
