1st baby premature - automatically consultant-led for 2nd?

Hi,

I had my DS 2.5 years ago. He was born at 36+1, so not massively premature, but early nonetheless. No obvious reason, perfect pregnancy, easy birth. Some early problems with feeding / jaundice, but all ok ever since.

I am now pregnant again, just 4+5 today. Will I be automatically consultant-led for this one? In a way, I'd love a bit more monitoring to ensure everything goes well and baby isn't born even earlier. On the other, I don't want to over-medicalise things...

Experiences, anyone?

Nope. DD1 was born at 34+0 for no obvious reason. I had one meeting with a consultant who said it was unlikely to happen again and therefore I would be treated as normal. They had a good look at my cervix length at the 20w scan (even though cervix was not the issue with DD1) but other than that nothing extra at all and I was not consultant led. DD2 arrived at 36+6... again no apparent reason.

DS arrived at 35+5 with no warning, perfectly healthy apart from jaundice when born. Now PG with DC2 and nobody has even batted an eyelid I just have "risk of preterm" on the front of my notes

DS 35+6. Next two full term and no extra monitoring.

Thanks for the reassurance! I have got a GP appointment next week and will discuss with them and also with midwife at first appointment.

I do have it in my guts though already that this one will be a bit early again. I was also absolutely sure that DS1 would not be late.... and he ended up being Speedy Gonzales!
