spd/pgp groin and thigh agony - positive stories?

I've had pelvic girdle pain since the first trimester. Now 39 weeks and recently the pain in my inner thighs and groin are agony - it feels like sprains. I'm worried this pain won't go! Standing, walking, moving in bed at night - all eye-wateringly painful.
Has anyone experienced this? Please tell me it will go! I hope it's just the weight/position of the baby!

Strangerjo I'm new to MN and this is my first post so I'll probably cock it up but when I read this I had to post. I have a 2 yr old DC. I got SPD suddenly one day sitting in a conference when I was 6 month pg. literally walked in fine and after 2 hours sitting still I started to get a very stiff pelvis. Won't bore you with too many details but was signed off work and on crutches. I couldn't walk more than a few feet without them and was still in agony, the memory of the pain makes me feel ill even now. It was constant and I'd take labour over that pain any day! Anyway a few things you've probably been told; An exercise ball is handy for sitting on and seems to ease the pain temporarily, plastic bag trick getting in and out of cars. The belt thingey never worked for me . Those big long pillows for supporting your bump were brilliant because you also wrap your legs around it and for me I think it seemed to realign things temporarily. My main point (finally!) is that after I had DC ( natural delivery in stirrups) I walked out to the loo without crutches briefly, and within a few days had no need for them. To be fair even now If I sleep on my back with ankles crossed or if I sit or drive for long periods, then stand up it's quite stiff but no pain. I stupidly thought I should just get on with it and didn't seek advice. Saw my osteopath about a pulled neck muscle today and she said she will have a look at pelvis at next appt. Hope you get some respite from it Thanks

Let's give an extreme, personal horror story on a thread asking for positives to a woman a week off her due date! And then labour the point!

OP, I really hope that you find that you are in the majority when it comes to PGP, and indeed this thread, and that you do find relief soon after delivery. Hopefully you will have a similar positive anecdotal tale to tell as most people seem to have. Do remember to measure your pain free gap as close to delivery as possible and, if you have an epidural, make sure your mw and birth partner are briefed to ensure your legs don't flop beyond that. (DH held one leg; mw the other! Wink)

Chandelierswinging horror story?

Thank you everyone!
Does anyone have any theories about why they recovered quickly after birth? No weight from the baby or something else?

On previous page, now... By the time I'd posted my reply, yours and another message had appeared.

Mine also disappeared straight after birth but I have it again with my 2nd pregnancy. I think it's all to do with the relaxin in pregnancy loosening ligaments and your pelvis opening. I'm pretty sure the weight of the baby being removed must help to ease it.

StormTr00per · 28/02/2016 14:58

I found walking still very painful for at least the first 8-10 weeks, and felt fully recovered by about 4 months pp. On the plus side, I am pregnant with DC2 and it's not nearly as bad this time. Hope you have have a quick recovery x

The pelvic partnership states it's a mechanical (e.g. stiff joint) not hormonal problem. I don't understand that because I started with symptoms before I found out I was pregnant. And if some women get a recurrence when they have their periods, that might suggest a link to hormones?
Either way, I desperately hope I'm not in the minority of women who don't recover or who go on the develop full on pelvic separation!

I had the c section last week and the groin pain disappeared immediately!

That's great news! Take it easier than you think you need to. Loads of people said that to me after my daughter was born (ELC) and I thought I was taking it easy when in reality I was walking miles and miles each day to get her to sleep Confused
