Thrush- inserted pessary small touch of blood on applicator

Have lovely case of thrush (22+5 weeks). Went to loo before inserted pessary no evidence of anything on tissue. Inserted pessary (I know should wait till pm but it's driving me crazy) when I took applicator out there was a small amount of blood on it, am sure I've just been a bit rough and scratched myself- am still checking and nothing further. Have midwife tomorrow anyway so will definitely mention. Has anyone ever done anything similar and would 'spotting' blood look any different from scratching myself?

You probably did just scratch yourself. I think if there is anymore blood then maybe you should seek advice (although you're seeing midwife anyway tomorrow). In future though you're not meant to use an applicator when pregnant, you should just insert with your finger. It probably is just a scratch though so try not to worry.

Bad cases of thrush can actually cause a bloody discharge I think as well, it's probably harmless, but check tomorrow. Unless there is more in meantime, in which case i would ring the ward at the hospital.

Thanks seven I did not that on instructions that it said you may be advised to use finger but neither doc nor pharmacist said anything but I think I will do that from now on. Am sure just is a scratch so am reassured as no cramps or any other symptoms. Thanks again!

Good point from Too. I've had bleeding from
really bad thrush, just after my 12 week scan. Consultant (who I was seeing about something else) did say it was probably just from my never ending thrush. I use a pessary every couple of weeks to try and control mine.

Thrush can do it, and in my last pregnancy I had cervical erosion which meant that I bled any time anything 'irritated' the area (I.e we had sex!). Also completely normal.

But as always, we're not medical professionals - I'd suggest you speak to your MW tomorrow :)

If it is a bright pink blood, you've probably just knocked your cervix with the applicator.

You don't even need to have scratched it, the little capillaries in the cervix get quite bigger and very easily burst - some people get light bleeding / spotting after sex from the impact on the cervix, harmless and v normal.

Thanks everyone! No more bleeding or even spotting. Think I've been a bit of a drama llama about it but am still going to mention it to midwife tomorrow- sage (and calming!) advice from you all!
