Anyone know the actual chances of catching toxoplasmosis from Parma ham??

Ate it today at lunch on a pizza (pizza was cooked and park ham added after) and though I enjoyed it immensely I'm now having a mini worry! Blush

Slim to none I would've thought!

Minimal I'd imagine. I ate parma ham, bluecheese , brie, smoked salmon, pate.....all babies were fine. I know this doesn't constitute actual data but I wouldn't worry too much

Next to nothing I'd have thought

I ate rare steak, blue cheese, cured meat from the pack and ds was fine

Another rare steak, cured meat, runny egg and blue cheese eating and occasional red wine drinking reprobate checking in here.

If it's making you feel awful with worry then don't do it again, as the worry isn't worth it and will be SO much worse for your baby than the smidgeon of parma ham could possibly have been!

I think I ate my own body weight in Parma ham, could not get enough of it in early pregnancy and so far everything's going well Smile

Ooh - ate loads at Christmas, thought it was ok. Oops.

The thing with toxoplasmosis is that if you eat a lot of rare steak, cured meat, blue cheese etc you probably have the antibodies for it anyway.

In France they have a test where they check for toxo antibodies and if you have them you can resume eating what you like as normal

Hi there, I wouldn't worry too much. The risk of toxoplasmosis is low. There are only around 30 cases in pregnant women each year! It's also only a risk of you are infected for the first time when pregnant, and around 10% of people will already have it. Cured meat does also pose a small risk of listeria, but again the chances are very very low.

Relax, and enjoy your pregnancy. Personally I avoided cured meat, but once or twice is very unlikely to cause any problems.

I did a piece recently on my blog about it, which might be useful?
