Hi ladies,

I'm currently 6+4 and have horrid sickness/cravings that mean I'm finding it impossible to eat decent food...the thought of veggies literally turns my stomach. Pizza and noodles / pasta are basically the only things I can bear to eat and I'm so worried that my poor little bean isn't getting the nutrients it needs. Am taking pregnacare but not sure that this really make up for a rubbish diet?!

I was exactly the same with DD1 and swore it would be different this time round...alas not.

Anyone in the same boat?! x

Sadly you want what you want! Make sure you're getting the water you need and taking all the pregnancy vitamins and minerals while you feel this way. Although veggies turn your stomach, make sure you're getting fruit and calcium etc. With any luck it'll pass Smile

Awrstickthekettleon · 12/02/2016 17:11

Thanks mrs, good advise Smile

I felt exactly the same at that point, all I wanted was carbs carbs and more carbs! I guess early pregnancy takes a lot out of you and your body need the extra energy.

I'm not 17 weeks and my appetite. Is slowly coming back.. Still can't manage broccoli though Blush

brookeberry · 12/02/2016 18:59

All I could at that stage were potato waffles! They say just eat what you can, as long as you are taking your supplements. Get some veggie soup down you and fruit like bananas are usually manageable.

I'm 31 weeks now and only just beginning to face green veg again Grin

Frank85 · 12/02/2016 19:14

Glad it isnt just me!
Im 33 weeks and I just want toast and marmite
O and carbs , all the carbs

MsFiremanSam · 12/02/2016 19:46

6 weeks here and nibbling the stuffed crust edge off a pizza for dinner 😳 Today have eaten toast, kettle chips and pasta. Cannot face anything non carb/bland/beige!

Awrstickthekettleon · 12/02/2016 20:02

Phew! Glad others are experiencing the same Smilejust devoured a massive pizza for dinner-oops Blush

Frank I find marmite on toast amazing for easing the morning vomming-don't know what it is but it just seems to work!

All I could eat for weeks was toast, mash potato and weak squash to drink!! My midwife reassured me at the time it was fine and go with what you can keep down till it passes. It's so grim feeling sick , be kind to yourself Thanks

BeardMinge · 12/02/2016 20:35

I honestly wouldn't worry about the baby's nutrition, they are remarkably adept at getting what they need. I think the first tri carb fest stage is very common. Just keep taking the vits.

acsec · 12/02/2016 20:41

I'm 6+2 and today I've eaten 5 pieces of toast, some pasta with salmon and broccoli (which was yummy on Wednesday but bloody hard work today) and jacket potato with beans and cheese. Did manage an apple and banana but they made my nausea worse!

fruityb · 12/02/2016 20:43

When I was 7 to 8 weeks I wanted nothing that tasted of anything. Was living in pasta and jacket potatoes till it went off. Only lasted about 10 days but it was vile!

BaggyPantz · 12/02/2016 22:12

11 weeks. Mega carb fest here too! The sickness and tiredness was so bad that I just had cereal, sandwiches, rich tea biscuits, toast, pizza, and maybe jackets if I could summon up the energy! The thought of veggies made me lose my appetite!

Midwife said just eat what you can manage for now, and make sure you take calcium and Vit D as well as folic acid.

Even though the sickness has passed now, I'm still reaching for the beige food. I've found the best way to get veggies in is to make veggie soup in bulk and freeze individual portions, and try and snack on easy fruit like grapes.

Don't stress too much though. Take your supplements and drink plenty of water. Baby will get what they need and your appetite will return to normal eventually Smile

slebmum1 · 12/02/2016 22:20

For the first 14 weeks I lived on haribo and flat lemonade, then progressed to white carbs- plain bread, pasta and mash.

Didn't do DTs any in the long run:)

Awrstickthekettleon · 13/02/2016 11:21

Thanks everyone! Feel so much better knowing I'm in good company Smile

Don't panic. Your baby will take all the nutrients it needs from you, which just means if you aren't getting many from your diet you will be left with very little after your baby has dined out Smile

But if your taking your vitamins you should be fine. Fingers crossed your appetite perks up soon.

getyourselfchecked · 13/02/2016 11:26

All I could eat for about 2 months was croissants. The baby is growing beautifully but my arteries have probably aged 10 years.

Jenjen85 · 13/02/2016 12:59

I'm 11wks and have lived mainly off biscuits, Crisps and at one point big macs Shock as that's all I could stomach (3 in the space of 4 days at one point lol). Iv currently lost 9lb since finding out I was pregnant tho as I can't eat much, just little and often. I was worse with my DD as I couldn't physically eat anything but when I did it was poppadoms and she is a healthy 2.5yr old. Just eat what you can then once you feel better widen the variety of food

Moglet85 · 13/02/2016 17:43

I'm 6 weeks and managing on toast and marmite, chicken and rice, dry crackers, noodles and pink lady apples (not all at the same time!). Have totally gone off milk and yogurt and am worried I'm not getting enough calcium.
As a foodie and being field based at work (limiting what I can have and at funny times) it's gonna be a long 30+ weeks!
Do people find their "favourite" foods help ease their nausea? Struggling with it, at all hours of the day and night and I'm not a very good patient. Any tips greatly appreciated x

squeezed · 13/02/2016 19:15

26 weeks and I'm still eating only crap. I can't keep healthy food down. Try not to worry, as long as you're hydrated and getting some nutrients (no matter how questionable), it will be fine.

cheekstime · 15/02/2016 10:31

Hi OP try not to worry I had to do the very same thing..and I figured at least its getting something, its better than nothing at all...you are taking the tabs too which will help towards making up the short fall. When they are very small.. around morning sickness time I learnt that this isn't the end of the world when I did my research. I was really worried and wanted to stick to normal diet but was very difficult and would make sickness worse....which meant even less food for the bubbs.

?Could you grate some veg albeit courgette carrot into a sauce? (if you have a sauce with the noodles that is.

Good Luck and hope it wears off soon. Once I ate small amounts often (even when I didn't fancy) it managed to keep sickness at bay....then I found I coudl eat mor enormally but did take a while til sickness fully gone. Theres every chance that it will clear up by end of trimester one.

toffeeboffin · 15/02/2016 21:40

I was the same.

Couldn't stand veg, especially semi cooked veg. Ugh.

Veg was fine if it was cooked, in a chilli, bolognaise etc but raw I couldn't face it.

Just eat loads of fruit instead.

toffeeboffin · 15/02/2016 21:43

Could always try smoothies, dump some spinach in them.

mrslebon · 15/02/2016 22:20

I'm 37 weeks and literally only eat chocolate or cake between 3pm - 6pm. I just can't help myself!

Awrstickthekettleon · 16/02/2016 17:41

Thanks ladies, some great tips there!

I can manage fruit smoothies in the afternoon so should see if I can sneak a veggie or two in there...

Cheeks I do the grated veg thing for my fussy-eater DD lol, hadn't thought to try it for myself!!

Am praying the pukiness subsides at the end of the first trimester... Ironically feel like I'm putting on loads of weight thanks to the carb-loading Confused

I had the same thing with my first, I put on lots of weight in the first trimester, lots more than the graphs say you should. My MW just said to me "well, you're not overweight so you don't need to worry". And, sure enough it did level out a lot in later trimesters, and then it all came off (and then some) with breastfeeding.

I started this pregnancy a little bigger (due to less exercise, slower walking with a toddler) e.g. trousers no longer needing a belt etc. And I'm back again wanting white bread, marmite, crisps (at 8am!!!), pasta and cheese sauce, and dreaming of a chip dinner. I don't feel happy about how much I'm eating as trousers already getting tight (7+5), but there is no other way to control the sickness.

I don't think the web articles about not needing any extra food/ calories, or foods to eat in the first trimester have been written by people with any real life experience of morning sickness.
