Recommendations on nursing chairs

Hi, I'm currently looking into nursing chairs before our baby arrives in a few months and wanted to see if anyone has any recommendations? The traditional nursing chairs aren't the most attractive and have found this one as an alternative:

Has anyone had any experience with this chair? While the reviews online tend to be good for the most part there aren't many so was keen to hear if anyone else has bought this chair. My only concern is it might not be as supportive on the neck as the traditional chairs and comfort is definitely the priority! So any reviews of the Hush Hush chair or recommendations for others would be much appreciated!

Ooh that looks comfy. I had a hauk glider wuth dc1 and it was fine when I moved from boob to bottle, but while he was on the boob I struggled to get comfy for both of us. Also, although I used the stool, I did wish for a more sofa/day bed type length so I could snuggle down with the baby on those more difficult nights without a draft coming up between my legs!

I'd go with the one you are sitting in. I haven't used a nursing chair. If I'm in the lounge I feed on the sofa or arm chair and at night I feed in bed. Our nursing chair is in the nursery Though so I guess I might use it more once DS moves in there but at that point I may no longer be breastfeeding and most babies can hold a bottle at 6 months and for sleep purposes it may be best to feed them in the cot to reduce disturbance. We were given ours off a family member. If we hadn't been then I'd have waited to get one.

We dis fine with an ikea poing armchair. Bounces slightly, supportive and not upsetting when DS thhrew up on it. Its still I his room for bedtime stories at nearly 4yo

Be careful how much you spend - most 'nursing chairs' end up with stuff stacked on them.

I fed twins for well over a year and used the sofa downstairs and a low, armless armchair upstairs. Lots of friends bought IKEA chairs and rarely used them.

I bought a traditional nursing chair, with a high back and head support, and it transformed my feeding. But we waited until dc1 was here to see if I really needed it. I just couldn't get comfy at all in bed. It was agony. So we ordered a chair to come asap. It was bliss. Have used it for dc2, and will for dc3.

I really like the height of mine, for comfort, and wouldn't choose your one on that basis.

Could you wait and see how you do without it? Seeing as so many people don't find them that useful?

13 years ago I invested in a LazeeBoy leather recliner & footstool for nursing DC1. Loved it then & love it now, it's just so comfy!
Point is - what will you do with a specialised chair when nursing is over?

I think the lazeeboy is a fab idea.

But to add, we had our nursery set up from day one and although ds didn't start sleepin in it until 4 months (i used to put him in at about 7/8 pm and then transfer him to his moses basket in our room for the night until he was a little bit older), we did use the nursery for everything else: upstairs feeding, dressing him, changing him upstairs etc except at night when I did all that was needed from my bed initially.

So the chair did get good use until he started climbing up on it and "reading" at around 1. Good luck in your quest.

Brilliant, thank you! Yeh, can also see us using the nursery a lot even though she won't be sleeping there initially. And that's a great tip about using the cot for the evening before putting her down in our room.

We just had a Poang chair from ikea which was lovely and when I stopped using it in DSs room it migrated to the conservatory. They now do a rocking version which I'd love if I could justify the space for another one

I didn't bother! Sofa or bed and then sat on the floor in DS's room when he went in there.
A friend had one which I sat in to feed at theirs a couple of times. I didn't find it very comfy. I couldn't get my arms in the right place!

I'd also say wait until baby is here before you decide if you need/want one.

I think it was a German brand, then sold in John Lewis, but no longer, and not quite as eye bogglingly ugly as some of them. I couldn't find a supplier of it in the UK 2 years ago, as I was thinking of replacing the spewed on cushions. (Just steam cleaned them in the end. )

I will have a look at the back of the chair later and let you know exactly what it is. (Am 8 months pregnant and cannot face unnecessary treks up and down the stairs at the moment!)

Save your money and buy shoes instead 😀 I have breastfed 4 babies and never used a nursing chair, learn to feed lying down then you can stretch out and rest/doze at the same time (only applies to first baby) subsequent babies you wil feed on sofa watching CBeebies with toddler!

We inherited one, plus footstool, from my sil, and still use it for bedtime stories now my baby is 14 months old. I found it really comfortable, I didn't get on with the Ikea Poang that everyone raves about at all - possibly because I'm quite short and it's quite deep.

We had a Snuzpod too, but I preferred to go into the spare room/nursery to feed so that dp didn't get woken up - also, as I was only able to bf for three months, it was easier for one of us to bottle feed in the other room.

i bought one from a local Facebook selling site for £15 once DS moved into his nursery at 5 months. It's been great - it is a glider with a recline function and rocking footstool. It has a high back which I think you need if you a big unit of a baby like my son. Gave my back a bit of respite. Although no longer breastfeeding anymore we still use it every night at 11 months for bed time stories and a bottle before bed. Ds also like to cruise around it with his teddies.

We also had a snuzpod which was ideal for breastfeeding/soothing in the night without getting up. See what you get second hand if can - there are always chairs for sale where I am and when I am ready I will sell this one on.

Another vote for the Poang chair from Ikea - and when baby gets bigger they do a child-size version that our daughter loves

I just use whatever is in the room I am feeding n. That said we did buy an IKEA poang chair for DS' room to use to feed at night. I had to put a pillow behind my back when feeding in it (probably as I am a short arse) but as someone else said, if it got dirty it was fine. And it didn't take up a lot of space. And we can use it in other rooms later.
