Backache - normal?

Hi - I'm nearly 22 weeks pregnant and today have suddenly got lower back pain that I can't shift. I'm not aware of having done anything to cause it, and I haven't got much of a bump yet, so I don't think it is because of any extra weight out front. Is it just another normal pregnancy ache and pain, or should I be looking out for any other symptoms? Thanks

to do with all the ligaments softening and muscles stretching as the uterus expands and rises up .......nothing sinister about it..just one of the many aches and pains a pregnant lady has to put up with! uterus presses on various nerves too and can cause pain..also the pelvic ligaments are softening and loosening..

don't worry ! can take a couple of paracetomal if the pain gets bad!

Thanks Lulumama - as I typed the message, I thought I might be being a little over anxious (my first pregnancy, can you tell?!)

bbpants,

the baby may just like hanging out back there. When I was pg with my ds I almost never felt movement in the front, but almost always had lower back pain.

Much sympathy bbpants! I started getting back pain around the 20 week mark and it never shifted (39W+3 now so hopefully it will go once I pop!). Strongly suggest a good sleep pillow, baths-even if you end up having one almost every day, swimming (if you have aqua-natal classes around you they are fantastic)and convincing everyone around to practice their massage on you!
