ok I am six weeks from due date
didnt have the other 2 early or anything but I am suddenly worrying that I may be going to have this one too soon
I have suddenly started having loose bowels and trouble with my IBS and I can smell everything really well again and have started retching and feeling sick again like at the beginning

Is this just the end of pregnancy normal type stuff that sometimes happens or am I going to have it soon

If I did how bad is it, I have no idea about babies coming early, how early is a problem?

Not too sure about early babies, my third was 10 days early, but thats nothing really. However on third pg I did get those beginning symptoms again towards the end. I also had a lot of false labours inc being in hosp, gas & air etc and then being sent home! Apparently this is quite common third time around.

So you're 34 weeks? I wouldn't worry too much, if it did come now it would be premature but very very very likely ok. But call your midwife if you're worried, bet she says the same. I wouldn't worry abotu the smelling thing, no idea about the nausea, could it be something you ate?

TinsellyRhino · 23/12/2006 11:08

thanks glass, thats very reassuring

Hmm, first of all you are 34 weeks dso the odds are good, pleae don't panic.

Also, I'm not a MW so I would suggest putting a call in tto reassure yourself (and also they'll now your name if anything does happen over christmas and you need to call them).

All of this could easily be stress related. IBS can be symptomatically similar to early labour- esp the loose bowels etc. And it IS Christmas, Hallow'ed Time Of Stress, it could easily be that simple.

However, it is also vaguely posible that bowel contractions could stimulate labour- so as I said, contact your MW.

Finally, it could be a virus couldn't it, nausea, heightened sense of smell, IBS like symptoms.

PLease don't worry, but do chat to MW, just in case.

thanks wicked, I just feel like I did for the first four months but not quite as bad

could be something I ate but the hyper sensitive smell thing is maing me think it's just morning sickness back again

theres also a d and V bug going round too which u may have rather than it ebing signs of labour. So sorry ur pregnancy has been filled with worry TR, like you say 6 weeks to go x

fortyplus · 23/12/2006 11:36

Should you go to hospital to get the baby monitored just to make sure everything is ok? 34 weeks isn't too early - I know several people who've had babies earlier than that and they were fine, but from my dim and distant memory I think at least one of them had some sort of treatment to delay the onset of labour and steroids to make the baby's lungs mature. That's the main problem with early babies, apparently.
Sorry I'm not medical so I'm not entirely sure of my facts - if it was me I'd go and get checked out for peace of mind.

Good advice fortyplus

My DS1 was born at 34+5 - hung on in after an early labour scare at 28 weeks - its not considered worryingly early. He had slightly erratic breathing and was taken to SCBU but was out after four days and on the ward with me.

He had a good birth weight though which I think is a key factor (6lb!)We had no problems with his development and he breastfed very well.

He is 3 and a half now and perfect

PeachyIsNowAChristmasFruit · 23/12/2006 11:52

LOL hippmummy- ds1 was only 5lb 5oz at term!!! He'd ahve been ab ig one wuldn't he?

hippmummy · 23/12/2006 12:23

Yes I think he may have been a biggun! - DS2 was full term and nearly 9lb.

Rhino - just remembered things to be aware of with early babes. More likely to be jaundiced - not a major problem but baby could be hooked up to the blue lamp for a while.

If you are planning to breastfeed, they will encourage you (even if s/he is in an incubator), to express your colostrum, then milk. It may feel odd, having given birth but not having a baby with you but if you look at a photo of the baby it really helps get the milk flowing!

Also my SIL had a baby born at 31 weeks weighing 3lb - he was in hospital for about six weeks and is now a happy well developed 2 1/2 year old.

Hope your little one manages to hold on for a few weeks - if not, I hope everything goes really well for you. Remember babies are born far far earlier and do very well x

Tommy · 23/12/2006 12:24

Rhino - am feeling eerily similar. Number 3 and 32 weeks.

My problem is that I have a really bad stitch - can hardly move. I had one the other evening as well.

Any ideas what causes them and how I can make it go away?

missnatalie · 23/12/2006 13:35

my sis had her baby 6 weeks early last xmas. he was perfectly healthy. hospital kept them both in hospital an extra day just as a precaution, but he's fine. he's just had his 1st birthday

PeachyIsNowAChristmasFruit · 23/12/2006 14:11

3 years ago, my sister and I had a baby months apart, my ds3 five months earlier than her (our other sister in the middle LOL- poor Mum!). Anyway, her ds1 was 6 weeks early and although he was in NICU for a while with feeding issues (mroe related to the condition that caused him to come early) he's now well ahead of my ds3 developmentally.

TwinkleTwinkleLupinsXmasLights · 23/12/2006 20:55

Hi

My dd was 5 weeks early, I did have a few other problems so she was emergancy section even tho i was in natural labour, she was fine tho, weighed in at 4lb 15, looked like a sparrow lol, she couldnt feed for a few about a week so had a tube down her nose, was fed very little and often with my breast milk, we were both home after 10 days, she has had no problems, I think it would be fine if you went into labour now, the care for little ones is so good, I have no worries about going into prem labour again - obviosly not too early tho

hth, Lisa xx

annobal · 26/12/2006 18:18

DS1 was born at 31 weeks. I started having problems at 27 weeks and managed to keep him in until then - the doctors main aim and the thing they kept stressing to me was to hit the 34 week mark as they would be far less worried about him. Anyway we made it to 31 weeks and after a pretty awful 6 weeks in SCBU we came home and he is now a strapping 3 year old.
Call your MW for reassurance if nothing else and if you do go into labour, don't panic.
GOOD LUCK!
