Nope!

maybebabybee · 27/01/2016 11:31

No, total waste of time.

Dixiechick17 · 27/01/2016 11:35

My friend did, but I wouldn't. The way I see it, delayed cord clamping allows the last of the blood and nutrients to go from your placenta to the baby. What's left is a dead hunk of meat... this is how I feel from what I have read, doesn't mean to say I am right

blessedwithtwo · 27/01/2016 13:33

I feel that the placenta has done it's job in nourishing your baby until birth.

Mummyme87 · 27/01/2016 14:10

Yes. I wanted to with my son but placenta needed to be sent off for testing. If there is any possibility of my iron level increasing quicker, reduction in PND and increased milk supply..I'm trying it

Heirhelp · 27/01/2016 20:45

What are placenter pills?

Undertheboredwalk · 27/01/2016 20:54

I'm 26 weeks atm, and have arranged to have pills made this time. Wouldn't have even entered my head if my midwife hadn't talked a lot about the possibility of them having a real impact reducing PND chances. I had it after my last pregnancy and am willing to try anything that might help avoid it!

maymow · 27/01/2016 22:08

I had a placenta smoothie (I know) and pills. No way of knowing if they were responsible but I had good milk supply, no PND, not v lengthy bleeding. I don't think I'll get round to it next time so will be interesting to compare!

Dixiechick17 · 28/01/2016 07:12

I just want to throw in that I didn't have my placenta as per my views above and I also didn't bleed for long or get PND and I had a really good milk supply... coming from someone that also has low Iron...

ChicaMomma · 28/01/2016 09:39

I'm doing it! 38 weeks now and have booked in to have it done- the planceta encapuslutaion specialist will come and collect the placenta from the hospital, i've ice packs and cooler bags in my hospital bags to put the placenta in while we wait for her.

I had PND and poor milk supply after my last pregnancy so i'm hoping it'll help with both those issues.. TBH i'd eat camel's shit to avoid PND this time!

seafoodeatit · 28/01/2016 09:42

Nope I have no interest in ingesting my own placenta but like the pp I'm in favor of delayed clamping. I do like the maori tradition of burying the placenta though.

brookeberry · 28/01/2016 09:57

I love that idea seafood. In reality, how easy would it be to take it home?

ChicaMomma · 28/01/2016 10:33

i would say very easy really- i cant say what the actually maori ceremony entails but i'd imagine you'd just put it in a plastic water tight box, same as you do when you're encapsulating it, then ask OH to take it home and put it in the fridge until the 'burial'. I assume there'd be no need to ice it in the hospital but as i say i'm not sure what the tradition dictates!

brookeberry · 28/01/2016 12:24

Thanks chica I'll run it by DH tonight - even if it's just to see the look on his face Grin

JizzyStradlin · 28/01/2016 13:55

Nope. I'd need some evidence that it actually works to fork out. Also I'm worried about the hygiene of some of the prep methods. Could easily be worse than useless. I mean, it's basically a piece of meat that's been through my fanny, into a warm delivery room!

ChicaMomma · 28/01/2016 14:13

haha, when you put it like that Jizzy!!!

still though, as i said, having had PND last time i'm willing to take the chance

JizzyStradlin · 28/01/2016 18:12

FFS make sure it's someone rigorously clean then. Last thing you want is PND plus galloping mange from placenta ming.
