5 weeks pregnant and cannot stop sneezing!

I'm 5 weeks today, and for the last 2 weeks I just haven't been able to stop sneezing. It's driving me mad, and is giving me a constantly runny nose. My eyes are itchy too. It's like the worst hayfever ever (and I don't normally get hayfever badly. Has anybody else had this?? What can I do?

I've had similar - I think your immune system lowers so as not to reject the embryo, and as a result you become far more susceptible to allergens. Try an antihistamine - I think loratidine is safe in pregnancy (in moderation)

Is it ok to take antihistamines in pregnancy??

Short answer: yes in moderation. Google for specifics.

I had this! There's a few antihistamines you can take in pregnancy but you need to get them prescribed by a gp.

Thanks. I have a GP appointment tomorrow, so will ask then.

Or you can just buy the antihistamines over the counter and not tell the pharmacist you are pregnant...

Same thing here. I am 4 weeks pregnant and i could not stop sneezing for the last week!

Snap, with itchy ears and palate to boot. I'm 10 weeks and getting worse. Had a go appointment yesterday and they told me I can't have antihistamines whilst pregnant. Sad

From NHS website:

"If you're pregnant and feel you need antihistamines, nasal sprays, nose drops or eye drops will at first be recommended. If these don't work, an oral antihistamine, usually loratadine or cetirizine is likely to be recommended."

I just buy over the counter loratadine and take it very sparingly if I have a bad allergic reaction.

My GP prescribed me Beconase nasal spray. It's a steroid spray that you can buy over-the-counter, and it's really helped.
