Pregnancy

If you had a proper large bump at 12 weeks

I have a proper, impossible to hide bump at 12 weeks. My belly sticks out farther than my (recently enormous) boobs and is shaped like a pregnancy belly. All my clothes now are maternity clothes. This is my third baby. I am sure I look as pregnant as I did at 5 months with my first.

If this has happened to you, did your bump stay about this size for a while? I figure this can't be the baby because the baby is still tiny. This my body recognising what is going on and giving up without a fight. This is a lazy body. I can't keep getting bigger at this rate or I won't be able to walk by 40 weeks.

The big bellies at 12 weeks, are mainly fat and bloating, with a little bit of wishful thinking (sorry to say). The baby is still tucked in under your pelvis and is only just peeking through. Physically not possible.

I can assure you there was nothing wishful about me thinking I had a bump at 12 weeks. I would much rather not have blown up to the extent I did.

No, it wasn't baby. It was bloat and the remains of last time's diastesis rectii, added to which I hadn't had a flat stomach before I started having kids so I certainly didn't acquire one afterwards. However, this was pregnancy related. I looked visibly pregnant, and was. The bump I had wasn't there before pregnancy and wouldn't have been there otherwise.

I had a noticeable bump at 12 weeks with my 3rd. It was our first and only son and my largest baby. With my 1st it was over 5 months before I had a noticeable bump.

I've got a little bump at 10 weeks - will find out a week on Tuesday if it's twins in there or just a monster baby!

Me at 36 weeks with just one :), this was baby no4 though and I looked pregnant straight away and just kept getting bigger. I do suffer from seriously bad water retention, that and he was 11.6lbs when delivered at 38weeks!

Not sure at 10weeks you would find out you would be having a monster baby Hmm

I suspect sophia's point was that she's big for just one, so she's joking it'll be a monster baby if it's a singleton. Like, you know, humour...

Saying that, while I was 95th centile throughout and constantly mistaken for being either several months further on than I was or having twins, the baby in the end was only a seven pounder. Massive bump doesn't necessarily mean massive baby.

I'm on Baby no 1 and have had a bump since I was 8wks (currently 12+1). Been in maternity trousers since 8 weeks as it's painful to wear anything else, even a couple of sizes larger.

I know it's all bloat, but the fact that I look more pregnant than my friend who is 21wks is just depressing...

Plus the endless comments about twins...my scan isn't until next week, so I'll find out then...

Thanks for all the responses.

Happily it is only one baby! I had a private scan at 8 weeks because I was so bloated and tired I got myself into state that there could be two in there.

I think my bump is a lot of water, but also it seems that my abs, which I have been working on so carefully with cross fit for years, seem to have given up all effort once the pregnancy hormones started flowing. They just gave up the fight. If I tighten my abs the bump is much smaller, but it seems I have to work a bit harder to tighten them. Now that I'm starting the second trimester and not so poorly I should start exercising and concentrating more on these abs. Maybe a daily plank will be the way to go.

I'm with you on the abs. I can pull in the bump a bit, but if I let go it just slobs out. I had about 3 finger gap between stomach muscle after dc2 birth so not feeling too optimistic about the state of my middle after this one...

I've done some pregnancy Pilates this time, which did quite a lot of gentle ab work, and lots of pelvic floor. Quite good. Only did pg yoga last time which I don't recall doing anything with abs.
