Coming up to 12 weeks now and have two appts booked scan and midwife on separate days. I understand the scan but not sure what happens at midwife appt. ive not been to impressed by the midwife as the two times ive spoken to her she called me rebecca ( not my name) and got her months mixed up and booked me for a date that didnt exist in january. I understand she tried but doesnt fill you with confidence. Dh wants to cancel her appt (didnt help she phoned at 7pm on Sunday distrubing a extended family meal) and just do the scan. First baby so no idea what happens at midwife appts? Thanks

I've seen a different midwife every time. I haven't found it a massive issue to be perfectly honest, even if I saw the same one for antenatal appointments I'd have ended up with a different one in labour anyway, most likely, which is when it's most important to have a nice one!

Had my first midwife appt. you all right, lots of questions, blood taken and wee sample given. Did ask midwife if i could hear the heartbeat but she said nice guidelines means she cant try till 16 weeks. Slightly disappointed as was looking forward to that. She spent alot of time running in and out of the appt with her phone and talking to colleagues outside about how to get to x place. Is that normal. Didnt feel we had her attention. However the forms were filled in and we left. Hospital looked very clean. Dh was impressed. He not been into hospital for he doesnt know how many years. Next appt is 16 weeks and ive been told dh doesnt need to come. Only the scan to look firward to....

They don't look for a heartbeat at 12 weeks. What a crock.

I was 8 weeks and she found it no problem!

I'm sure it isn't the norm to listen to the heartbeat, I was simply suggesting you can ask! They can find it with the stethoscope. She just asked if I wanted too so I said yes. She said not to worry if she couldn't find it a it was early*

And I'm saying that's bullshit.. Sorry. At a scan maybe but that's all.

Its not normal for her to be running in and out taking phone calls, she should be giving you her full attention during your appointment, especially with your first baby, unless she is dealing with an emergency.

I would call the central booking system and request another midwife if I were you.

its so dull the first appointment good luck getting through it, you may find it exciting since it's your first, after that its dull. I actually hate every midwife appointment see it as a bother but I find the scans more useful.

I'm sure the midwife appointsments are important though especially in discussing any health concerns, so ignore me

don't forget your urine specimen great times collecting that every appointment....not

you shouldn't miss your first appointment op just tolerate it, you will be given important information too.

Kd..im high risk pregnancy and first time pregnant so was slightly concerned she ran in and out so much. Dh and i ended up laughing about it in the end. Was worried as there is one very important pregnancy problem female members of my family had with the place enter i wanted her to note but she just wasnt listening. Ill try next time. Dh is fully aware of the problem but good if a note had been put in my notes.
