I'm close to EDD so labour very near, whether natural or induced. Over the weekend OH & I went for dinner at a relatives to be told by the person cooking 'oh I've been really ill with a chest infection & bed-ridden up to today'. I was pretty peeved because I felt too rude to leave but also don't want to catch anything that can make me feel shitty or weak for giving birth. They never cover their mouths when they cough, which irritates me anyway.

This happened on & off during my pregnancy too with friends & family where I'd arrive at their homes to find them or their kids with infections/colds etc. I even caught chicken pox virus (thankfully after 20 weeks) and I'm sure it was via my dad who visited when my brother had the illness, although wasn't there.

Am I being precious or does anyone else worry?

Rufus200 - you are wrong, SoupDragon is right. You can't catch shingles. You can catch chickenpox from chickenpox or from shingles. If people you knew had shingles around the same time, it would have been coincidence and not because you were harbouring the virus (everyone whose had chickenpox 'harbours' the virus as it lays dormant and can flare up later as shingles).

YANBU, my boss did the same to me when I was pregnant. People shouldn't be so selfish, it can end up being serious.

My boss usually works remotely but decided to come into the office specifically because he wanted to see me, even though he had a chest infection. I told him that I didn't want to be around him when he was ill, but he insisted. Of course I then became unwell and it was horrendous, I was off work for 3 weeks.

YANBU.

On my second to last day of work before going on maternity leave, someone in my office brought in their 5yo vomiting daughter (she was actually sick in the office bin!!), I was seriously unimpressed. To make matters worse, her DH actually had the day off, but already had a trip somewhere in the car, so didn't want to take the daughter with him in case she was sick in his car HmmAngry

Same happened to me last year. Went to a family catch up on New Years day and my Uncle informed me that up until the day before he had been vomiting and still felt pretty rough. This was after he kissed me on the cheek and hugged me. I was came down with it the following day and it wasn't pleasant. I would have been irritated too if I was about to pop.
