I'm not due until 30th January but woke up at 4am to breaking waters. I'm in hospital now and they said head is engaged but I'm not in labour but they want to induce as soon as there is a room free because of it being pre-term and the risk of infection.
Will the baby be OK this early? Do you think the induction might be easier as the process has sort of started on its own? I'm having mild back pain and periodlike feelings but apparently the cervix is closed.
Ftm and its all just come as a bit of a shock.

Thanks everyone :)
DH is here and we are still just waiting.
Back pain, period cramps but that's it.

All those cramps do some good- every one is preparing you for the birth. You can do it! Go team!

I had an amazing induction birth- very straight forward and as enjoyable as it can be. I really hope yours is the same and you'll be all done and having your lovely baby checked over soon.

With DS my waters broke at 36+2 and I was induced (ended up being delivered by a relaxed emcs which was fine) - DS was absolutely fine and is now a rather robust 7yo. Spent 3 days in hospital, on post natel ward and everything was good. It was rather unexpected as I was still at work at the time and had to phone and say "sorry I can't come in today I'm having a baby".
I'm expecting no.2 now and am now going to be ready from 36 wks onwards just in case, not going to be caught short again.
Good luck, I'm sure all will go well and you'll be saying hello to your little one very soon.
Congratulations.

It's a girl and doing fine. Only minor concern at the moment is she's breathing a little fast.
From about 5 my back pain was flaring up every few minutes but not too bad. They checked at about 7:45 and I was amazed to find i was 6cm. By 8:30 I was fully dilated. They became a bit concerned about her heart rate dropping with the contractions so helped delivery with ventouse. I found the whole birth completely manageable and really happy to have avoided induction. The gas and air made no difference so I didn't use it. Had a tiny tear which they have stitched. Probably helped that she's a teeny tiny 4lb 13oz.
I've hand expressed some milk which she has had, her blood sugar and temperature is good. Just hoping this breathing too fast thing doesn't last long.

Congratulations Thanks

With ds the fast breathing lasted about 7 hours then he improved after I demanded skin to skin and he latched on and fed. Paediatrician wasn't happy that he was out from under the lamp, but I think he needed to be near me to regulate his breathing and it was only for 15 minutes then he went back under the lamp.

Thanks everyone!
The breathing thing seems to have sorted itself out after a bit a cuddle. Now on the ward with lots of noisy babies and our small and squeaky one.
