Sorry I think this post is just going to be a moan, but think I need to have a good cry at someone who understands (maybe?) I am due next Thursday and for nearly a week now I have been getting quite painful braxton hicks, my dr has said that it is quite common & to take paracetemol & have hot baths, both of which I have done and they are not helping. I have had sickness & diarohhea (sp) at the beginning of the week, which eased off just had nausea & then last night I had the runs again, I was diagnosed with IBS at the beginning of my pregnancy so not sure if its that or not, but its the nausea feeling I cant cope with. I have been getting a gurgling sound from my stomach all day, which I havent had before & have got backache & stomach pains all of which I cant cope with & have spent the last 2 hours just bursting into tears. I feel stupid to phone my GP/midwife again as they make you feel like you are worrying over nothing but this is my first baby, and to be honest I dont no how long I can cope with feeling like this... Sorry to be such a misery

You poor thing!! . I remember only too well how it feels towards the end. Everyone keeps saying "not long now" and you feel as though you just can't cope with another day. I don't know if your symptoms are common - didn't have them personally (infact I think it was only the last couple of weeks I wasn't sick!!) - or whether you have a stomach bug, either way it can leave you feeling pretty wiped out, even when not heavily pregnant. Call your midwife - I know that 'another first time mum look' you sometimes get, but they are there to help you - insist that they do. Good luck, wish I could be of more help.

Thanks mamalocco I think I might give her a call, if I can get through as everytime I call her mobile is switched off!!! Thanks xx

Call NHS direct. Explain you can't get through to your midwife. Whenever I've ever called them I've always got through to a nice nurse to talk to, sometimes that's enough to make you feel abit better.

WinkyWinkola · 15/12/2006 18:50

Poor soul. It can be a real drain at the end of a pregnancy when the end doesn't seem to ever arrive. I was ten days overdue and felt dreadful especially when I being 'phoned all the time by people.

Can you drink pear juice at all? That's supposed to help with nausea as it's very gentle and soothing. Or digestives?

Labour could of course be gently rumbling on and becoming more established.

Hang in there and be kind to yourself. And moan on!

You poor thing - at our antenatal classes they said sickness and diarrhoea were often signs that labour was about to begin - so hopefully thats what it is and all the aches and pains will be over soon! I'd still speak to the midwife again - even if you were worrying over nothing its their job to reassure you and make sure everything's ok.

When I was towards the end everyone kept telling me to make the most of it, but you don't feel like that at the time - you just want to get the baby out! I found going for walks helped my back and made me feel better in myself (it also helps to get the baby in the right position so hopefully makes for an easier birth!)

Good luck. I was a christmas baby too (they'll get twice as many pressies!)

Thank you all for your kind messages, feel a bit better now DH has come home from work, but still feeling nausea etc, I was told the same as it could be the beginning of labour, but then I start thinking that I am just wishful thinking!! I have started to get a pain down below aswell, bit like a shooting pain so unsure of what that is, I have decided that if I have another night like I did last night then I will call my MW tmw, I have to be brave and do it!

You poor thing, hope you are feeling better. My sister had really bad braxton hicks with her 2nd baby, she found her tens machine really helped, best check with your midwife first though.
Big hugs for you.

Poor you,it's bloody shit isn't it?

I spend most of the last month whingeing or in tears.

My family told me I'd been an awful miserable cow but I didn't care.

Be mindful of your last opportunity for a while just to be.

Lie down and get someone to masssage your feet.

Let us know when things happen.

Dawnybabe · 16/12/2006 14:07

Just want to say I totally agree. I am two days off my due date but as everyone seems to delight in telling me, first babies are nearly always late. I am so uncomfortable it's unreal. I can hardly move without my stomach muscles feeling like they're ripping in two. I can hardly get up off the sofa. It hurts to turn over in bed, and last night when I tried to kick my leg up a bit to turn myself over I got the most agonizing cramp up the back of my thigh. I was in tears and I woke my husband up with all the fuss. I am thoroughly sick of being pregnant and wish I had opted for an EC as I'd probably have had it by now. If I was also getting sickness and the runs on top of feeling like absolute shit I'd be on the phone to the hospital!
Sorry to hijack and whinge but God am I sick of this. You have my complete sympathy.

SHELL2006 · 16/12/2006 19:03

Dawnybabe I am thinking of you hun, its horrible isnt it???? How un maternal does that sound? I feel awful saying that!! Lets hope that we have our babies come soon, keep me posted xx

It does sound awful doesnt it!
I don't think we're unusual though. I just think the way they predict your due date is rubbish. You think it's ready to drop and it still hangs on for a while! According to my midwife, the due date is 40 weeks from the first day of your last period. That means my due date is nine months from the last day of my period which was 18th March. Well how stupid is that? I certainly wasn't having sex on the last day of my period, let alone have an egg to even conceive with! You're not fertile till after your period! I don't understand..... so I'm still sitting here, on my due date, really bloody uncomfortable and knowing full well it won't come yet. No wonder thay keep telling me first babies are usually late. They're not, they just predict them too bloody early!

SHHHHsantaiscoming · 18/12/2006 13:51

feel sorry for your both. Im expecting my 2nd and at 33 weeks I to am uncomfortable and so ready to have baby!!! I have been having bh's since around 23 ish weeks and yesterday they were so regular and so uncomfortable..not sure how I am going to cope in labour/. All dh says is : You are brilliant at giving birth and you did it once and can definatly do it again. Yeah thanks.!!! Makes me feel good that he has such a good opinion of me and believes in me but then again makes me mad that all he has to do is sit and watch me in labour..!!

My sympathies totally..!!

BTW just to add to the comments about "1st babies being late"..with dd I was told she was due 15/05 and she was born........16/05. My labour acually started 12am on 16/05 so she wasn't that late .!!!
I just hope that ds2b arrives as predicted..!BUT then again I have been told boys can arrive later due to lazyness . Hey ho ho ho ho...!!! .

Good luck.

SHELL2006 · 18/12/2006 14:51

Do you realise how good it is to hear that I'm not the only one feeling like this!!!

I feel a bit better about myself today as DH was home all weekend so at least I had some company, I think thats what half the problem is, I feel lonely in the day on my own, especially with my family living 100 miles away aswell.

I was doing my ritual of nesting again last night but have been like that for about a week, so dont think I am nesting as I am going into labour, I think its just that I am bored!!! I have my 40 week appt with my Dr on Thursday, do you think if I ask he will do an internal examination to see if my cervix is softening?? As I would like to know if labour is imminent or not, as then I can get on with Christmas, instead of sitting around thinking oh todays the day!!! xx
