hi, I am nearly 15 weeks pg. Last week I had a quite heavy bleed and ended up having an emergency scan which showed the baby was fine. They could not see any cause of the bleed. I continues with light spotting over the weekend but then it stopped. Today I was shocked to pass quite a large clot (prob about an inch tall and wide) followed by a small amount of blood. I was lucky enough to see a midwife quickly and she found baby's heartbeat on the doppler. I am now spotting again, and although reassurred by hearing the heartbeat, I am worried! Anyone have any experience of this?

i bled from 6wks-20wks with ds, they said it was due to cervical changes. not sure about the clot tho. speak to your mw again and put your feet up for a few days

merrylissiemas, did you have regular scans up to 20 weeks to monitor the situation?

Twinkle - I bled from 8 - 21 weeks. They never said why it was but that the bleeding was not coming from the baby. I am now 33 weeks and fingers crossed all has been okay since then so try not to worry to much. Just put your feet up and rest, it is so important to rest. Do contact your mw though to be reassured and checked.

Good luck - wishing you all the best! x

yes, my 1st was at 5 wks and in all i had 6 scans plus my scheduled ones. the bleeding varied from light spotting to quite heavy (i needed a pad)

I had one bleed with DS1 at 10 weeks - I'd already seen his heartbeat on two scans prior to this, so that reassured me slightly - and a further scan when I was 11 weeks showed his heartbeat again. Obviously he was fine and I didn't have any more bleeds, but it was scary and my heart goes out to you for the worry you're feeling now.

I think it's a very, very good sign that you've seen and heard the heartbeat - I do know that many women bleed at least once and some throughout pregnancy and go on to deliver healthy fullterm babies - how much monitoring are you having now?

twinkle5GoldRings · 14/12/2006 16:52

well I was scanned last week at the EPU, but my next scheduled scan isn't until the end of January. Basically the midwife today didn't suggest any extra monitoring appointments, but she did tell me to phone whenever I needed to. At the EPU last week they told me not to worry if the bleeding was light, but I certainly worried when I saw the clot . I was reassurred to hear the heatbeat though

I didn't get any extra monitoring wither Twinkle. I also passed stringy clots - but they were light brwon (sorry if TMI). I just called teh mw every time I bled and was concerned. Even if you can just go in and hear the heartbeat it makes you fell so much better. I had one early scan at 11 weeks (emergency) and then the 20 week anomoly scan. I ended up in hospital with pain and bleeding at 21 weeks where they scanned me but to be honest were pretty useless. Sorry if this is not much help, just want you to know that I had the same/similar experience and my pregnancy has progressed well seince 21 weeks.

Thinking of you x

i'm a big believer in trusting your instincts. every time i went into hosp with a feeling either my waters were dripping, or i was having early contractions or i had 5+'s of protein. mw's have a habit of dismissing your fears so if you are worried try NHS direct (great with my 2nd mc) or go to a&e

lulumama · 14/12/2006 17:14

twinkle..have you been checked for cervical erosion or the position of the placenta...as these are common reasons for bleeding in pregnancy and not necessarily an indication of something sinister, try not to think the worst, and call the midwife if you are concerned...x

twinkle5GoldRings · 14/12/2006 20:09

I had an internal examination last week and they couldn't spot any problems with the cervix. The placenta is low down but not extremely low IYSWIM. They couldn't see any problems with the placenta
